Default Time for a new Furnace

We're looking at getting out old furnace replaced with a new high or mid efficiency furnace, was wondering if anyone here had any contacts or suggestions that we should look into.

Thanks,

It'll take a long time to pay off the cost difference between a mid efficiency and a high efficiency furnace. Generally, it's only worth going to a high efficiency if you are more concerned abut the environment, or you have other reasons in play.

Since it's a retrofit, you'll already have a chimeny, but if you were installing in a place that didn't have a chiney to use, you'd have to go with a high efficiency, as they don't require a chimney.

This is only true if gas costs are pretty low.

i wouldn't even think about going to a mid-efficiency furnace. Especially with high gas prices.

I personally have a HE Furnace with two-stage heating. They are very economical and because of the variable blower it uses much less electricity.

In May I purchased a new Amana HE furnace. Amana have really good reviews and seem to be one of the top brands. as csnarpy (who needs a new sig btw) says the two stage system is great.

A HE furnace will also be a benefit when trying to sell the house.
