HBP Question
Maybe I'm not wording things properly, but I haven't had a ton of luck with a question I've had.
I used the HBP for a down payment on my first home in early 2012. Since then I have been contributing at about a 70/30 split to my own rrsp and a spousal one for my common law girlfriend. Our plan is to finish our 5 year term, lock in for 5 more, and then move into a place we can stay in forever. Being that I purchased the home myself and she is not on the title at all, are the spousal rrsp contributions I make for her eligible for the HBP when we do decide to upgrade? I've been making fairly regular TFSA contributions with plans to use that as a down payment for our new home so that we do not have to rely on moving our current home quickly (trying to avoid a loss by forcing a quick sale). Some sources tell me she is eligible if she has not owned a home in the last 4 years, some say she has to be renting during that time which she most definitely is not. Basically we just want to know where it would be in our best interest to park our money for the next 8 years.
