... Anonymous is full of crap most of the time. Yeah, they can DDOS a website, but "transferring money out of peoples' accounts" is not a thing. Moreover, I would estimate that about twelve people in Russia will even see this, so no one is running to their bank in fear.

I don't know if this is real, but I have seen this type of stupidity before first hand.
Seems like the smart move to me as opposed to outright surrendering and facing the blowback when they are returned home for giving themselves up. These are the stories we should be hoping to see more of (if true).
Russia has 145M people and a smaller economy than Canada. ....

As much as we all would like to believe in the above two opinions, they do not reflect the actual economic hold Russia has on Europe and other world players. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to provide links to newspaper articles due to paywalls, but I strongly suggest reading the re-print from The Telegraph in today's Herald. This is probably the most sober, rational and weighted analysis I have read recently of why Russia can and likely will get away with this war without much economical damage to itself.

Be careful about what you trust on Reddit, by the way. It is NOT a reliable source of information about this conflict. A lot of selection bias. Watch coverage by mainstream media and AP or Reuters.

Regarding the 5M Rubles to surrender, someone asked how Ukraine could afford that...
As mentioned, 5M Rubles is (currently) just under $50K USD. If 1,000 soldiers way down their weapons, that would only cost Ukraine $5 million. That amount is substantially less than the costs they are incurring to infrastructure, their economy, and actual human lives.
If 10,000 Russians were to lay down their guns, that would still only cost Ukraine $50M and would go down as, not only money well spent, but one of the greatest war victories in human history.

I think its unrealistic to imagine this happening, and its probably a rhetorical statement by the Ukrainians.

I don't get "surrender to prison" part. Earlier messages talked about amnesty. Nobody's going to prison as Russian soldier who was just handed $50.000. Not only soon he and money are to be parted, but considering how much ukranians hate Russians right now, Russian prisoner may not last long down there.
Edited: Could be just mistranslation though. In Russian "surrender" and "give up" is the same word, so a phrase "surrender to prison" is often used to distinguish surrendering from giving up.

Same with Twitter, and social media in general. Unless what you're seeing is verified, take it with a grain of salt.
I am just absolutely floored by the spirit of the Ukrainian people.
Same. Right where I live over 50% of my neighbors and friends have some sort of tie back to Ukraine. Either through immigration the past 25 years, family still be there or they came over in the 1st or 2nd move that many did in the early 1900s.
Talking and working with many of them to try and arrange for help & aid, I am both saddened and amazed at their spirit.
Canada has the 3rd largest amount of Ukrainian people outside of Russia & Ukraine, and they very much have helped shape the culture and direction of our country the past 100 years. This whole ordeal should be personal for every Canadian because of our DIRECT link to those amazing people.
