Good luck trying to convince people to take on massive debt, put their lives on hold for 2 years waiting for a leaky, experimental vaccine and triple the national debt all so that some deeply enfeebled people can live a few more years.

Only ice floes and shoddy submersibles for disposing of those Matata deems as having lived enough.

My brother in Christ, you don’t and will not look that good at any age.

Alberta thread was talking about Y2K. I'm more than half convinced that the world did kind of end at 2000. Everything kind of peaked and then has spiraled into #### since then. There are so many aspects of life that people will just not experience because they happened to live in the end of days, or whatever we are going to start calling post-2000.

I have to come clean. It was me who stole it in the first place. Water under the bridge, I hope.

In my high brain last night I thought this was a great line. I had a whole thing worked up in my head where I could start a stand-up routine and this was going to be one of my jokes (only one so far, tbh).
In the light of day it doesn't hit quite the same

Harvard professor who studies dishonesty is accused of falsifying data
https://www.npr.org/2023/06/26/11842...francesca-gino
After examining a number of Gino's works, the team said they found evidence of fraud spanning over a decade, most recently in 2020.
"Specifically, we wrote a report about four studies for which we had accumulated the strongest evidence of fraud. We believe that many more Gino-authored papers contain fake data. Perhaps dozens," DataColada wrote.
The group said they shared their concerns with Harvard Business School in 2021.

Is it just my bad luck, or are food standards seriously dropping in 2023? The amount of times I've been getting cracked eggs, yogurt or sour cream with major rips and malfunctions on the plastic seal, mold in baked goods, frost damage on produce an fruits, red blood dripping chicken bones in rotisserie chickens (not light pink color) etc. has seemed exponentially higher than what I've encountered in nearly a decade. I've gotten food poisoning like half a dozen times in varied low to severe severity in 2023 alone vs probably half a dozen times in the last decade.
That's not even including successfully navigating away from obvious rotting fruits and veggies or sealed foods in clear plastic like salads or noodles. Are food standards actually worse? Grocery store employees at new lows of zero ####s given? A combination of both?
I remind myself to double and triple check food before cooking and consumption now.

That's funny. We just experienced this last night. Opened a fresh tub for Taco Monday at our house and it was blue and fuzzy. Can't remember the last time that happened.

I remember shortly after 9/11 is when suddenly there was a big nostalgia fad in both sports (bringing back retros uniforms en masse, giving expansion teams a retro name/look, like Nationals, etc) and fashion in general, which seems to still be going strong today (teens obsessed with 90s fashion/music, in the 2000s it was the 80s).
I've always felt that started due to all the post 9/11 change and uncertainty in the world, and a yearning to go back to what is probably felt by many as a "simpler time".

So, never attempt to alter your voice or mannerism to add a comedic touch lest you ####ing butcher the attempt and end up sounding like you’re caricaturing the other persons race. GD mortified at how stupid I am sometimes.
