That's terrible. It's just amusing how EA manages to be annoying even when they're trying to do something to apologize for being annoying.

Maxis' SimCity has sold 1.1 million copies in its first two weeks, EA has revealed. More than half of those sales stem from Origin and other digital distribution services.

EA also noted some fun facts about SimCity's opening weeks:

• SimCity players have logged more than 15 million hours of online gameplay.• More than 5.7 million original cities have been created since launch.• More than 780 million buildings have been built.• SimCity mayors to date have built enough road and railroad tracks to circle the globe more than 40,000 times.

Game Informer 6.5

Given time, Maxis could clear up the problems with SimCity. The studio could deliver consistent server performance, restore cheetah speed, patch the AI, and give players larger cities. But games can’t be reviewed based on the product they might become; Electronic Arts and Maxis are charging gamers for this experience right now. At this point in time, it just isn’t worth your money.

That's pathetic that they would put a list of games out instead of just letting people pick. I could live with them excluding some games that just came out in the last couple months but to give you a list of 8 games, with a couple of them being a joke of a selection?

I'll download one just to take advantage of it but none of them interest me.

I played a bunch over the weekend. I had no problems getting in, and cheetah speed works fine for me.

A few things that really irk me...

Health coverage.
If you recycle another city it never gets reclaimed and fills the lots.
The lack of storage for some of the items.
The phantom population, worker bug

So far I am doing ok and havent had a "throw my mouse" moment but its getting there.

The fact I need to redo the tutorial if I pick a different server and cant load my game from a different server. WTF.

They finally fix that? I thought that you could select it but it wouldn't actually increase the speed any further than the setting below that.

Just hit 70 hours played so far last night. Still enjoying the game, but yeah, as others have noted here and elsewhere, lots of issues still. Enjoying the challenge though, and am going to download Sim City 4 Deluxe with my free game.

I may never need a sim city fix again after...

Just curious as to why you'd download Sim City 4.

I never played it and I want to see what everyone keeps talking about when they say how good it was, and that all Sim City 2013 should have been was a minor update, etc.

I recently played the SNES version Sim City as well, so I don't mind the older titles either

I'm pretty sure it is not fixed yet. When I played this weekend there was no Cheetah speed.

The $20 CitiesXL Platinum on Steam is tempting right now.

Bug on EA’s Origin game platform allows attackers to hijack player PCs
Millions could be at risk of exploits that use Origin to execute malicious code.

Electronic Arts CEO resigns, effective on March 30
No official reason given, but resignation comes soon after the doomed SimCity launch.

it's a good game but it's not a challenge. It's really more of a sandbox experience. you can very quickly and with no difficulty build a city of half a million ppl in an hour with no regard to how you do it. its plop and drop, people will come. the only challenge in the game is having the right proportion of jobs for people who fill them. theres no such thing as land value and building a city 'from within'. Theres no real reason to be slow in the game, you just steam roll through and if your missing some police or firefighters, bulldoze a block of residental and plop it in. Fixed.

I think the game is more geared to those who want to build something nice to look at but there`s not a lot going on under the hood.

Maxis' SimCity has sold 1.1 million copies in its first two weeks, EA has revealed. More than half of those sales stem from Origin and other digital distribution services.

EA also noted some fun facts about SimCity's opening weeks:

How are these numbers at all impressive?

My friend and I started a region on the Antarctica servers after my 2 cities got the "Unable to Load" bug on NAW1. I quit playing because the next city I made went from smooth sailing to total gridlock across my city between logins, leaving my city unplayable. My friend created 3 cities in this region, all of which are unable to load as of today. So basically of the 8 or so cities we've created, 6 of them have been abandoned or crashed. So saying 5.7 million cities created is pretty disingenuous. In fact, you could argue that lots of those numbers are flawed. Does in include refunded games (though I kinda think that's a minimal number), how many of those hours include the early server wait times? And also, is 1.1 million copies a good number for a game sale? Didn't Diablo do 3 million in the first week or something?

Edit: Just checked for fun
Diablo 3 was 3.5 million - record setting
Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty - 3 million (couldn't find sales numbers for HOTS)
The new Tomb Raider even hit a million in the first 2 days
Hell A:CM even got 600k in sales in the first week

Just lost another city when the servers were unable to process it.

I think I might be done with this game.
