I really liked Leah doing the PBP. As I said in the OOT, at first, the silent moments bothered me because I wasn't used to them. But then I didn't mind them and I found that it kind of added to the game rhythm - if nothing is happening, it's okay to gear down on the talking.
Her voice is soft and quiet, which is also unusual for a PBP person, but that didn't bother me either.
I thought her play calling was really good.
More Leah!

It takes a PBP person years to get good at it...most are terrible to start.
The fact that women are just now getting a chance to do PBP at this level its not really fair to compare to the top sportscasters.
guys or girls it seems anyone new to the NHL gets hated on, this is NOT an easy job.
Try recording yourself calling the game tonight with the sound off for a couple mins and then play it back (not that anyone would ever do that )

What makes this issue particularly thorny is that we're exposed are so few female PBP announcers/colour commentators that if you don't like a particular one, you're hard pressed for examples of others that you like. All female colour commentators that Flames fans listen to and Cassie Campbell-Pascall are very close to being the same thing.

A lot of times it's my feeling it's unconscious sexism. The voice is unusual because we're used to a man's timbre and inflections. I say - give it some time, get used to it and try to listen without historical bias. I mean, the complaint about Cassie I always hear is "monotone" which she isn't. Not any more than Debrusk, or Millen, or a bunch of other colour guys. It's just a different range.

Leah is doing a fantastic job. I really think a lot of the hate is because people aren't used to a woman doing PBP.
If you want to listen to someone who has no clue how to do PBP just listen to Derek Wills.

Agreed! She's new but she gets the calls fairly correct. Cassie Campbell by contrast is sometimes very off, and she's not even doing pbp

Honestly the bashing of any tv / radio personality on the site makes me cringe.
Seems a little cruel to me. Won't catch me hammering on any one male, female or Martian.
Part of the job I know, but it sure seems social media has made everyone an absolute expert on every position they've never tried.

I don't think there's that much hate re Leah's style.
I thought it was Sarah Davis of TSN doing the PBP.
And re Cassie, as many have said, she seems much better on the panel than doing colour commentary.

If Johnny keeps being more comfortable playing a physical style, and backchecking regularly, I think that I'm getting more comfortable signing him to a longterm deal. If he can add even 25% of what Marty St.Louis brought, he is going to age very well.

are you asking for permission to bash Tucker Carlson, or are you comparing regional sports personalities to a mass spreader of misinformation with an audience in the tens of millions? choose carefully.

And Leah's the opposite of Carlson. She brings the truth bombs:

Well everyone is coming from a different place on this but some complaints about Cassie have nothing to do with unconscious sexism.
You should give Doris Burke (basketball)a listen. She is a total pro and one of the very best color people in the business IMO. Yeah her voice sounds different than a male but she would never be accused of being monotone or dry. She is sharp, knowledgeable and drops insights and analysis throughout the game.
Honestly I think the bigger issue is that a lot of hockey broadcasters are just not as good as what you find in other sports. For some of these color guys, I really question how much they prepare. The vast majority are former players looking to make some money in retirement.

It's never worth it man. I know where your coming from, but even if other posters like Tucker they won't admit it.

Yay a Cassie discussion that'll likely get shut down!
It has nothing to do with her gender or her voice, it's her take on things, the things she says and the amount of talking she does that takes away from, not complements, the play-by-play.
