Calgary has the 7th best 5v5 Corsi for in the league (51.17%) and the 9th best Fenwick (51.04%)
In 15-16 PIT and SJS were 3rd and 5th in Corsi and 4th and 3rd in Fenwick.
14-15 CHI and TBL - 5th, 4th Corsi and 10th, 4th Fenwick
13-14 LAK and NYR - 1st, 8th Corsi and 1st, 7th Fenwick
Based on that I'd say the Flames are not quite a true contender for the Cup, but probably a strong dark horse.

Yep, that's an elbow plain as day. Tkachuk shows no fear playing like this at such a young age... he's gonna be an absolute beast to play against as he gets older and matures

Elliott's SV% on the season is also still only .911, so even with this recent streak, Elliott as a whole can play better over a whole season.

But if you can do that without getting caught it's a pretty good way to get guys off their game. Doughty was pretty bad the 2nd 2 periods imo. But I wouldn't be surprised to see guys taking runs at flames players next time
They play as the kings will be out of it (they already are IMO).
|
Damn, I'm taking my Flames glasses off and calling it as it is: a dirty elbow.
Wouldn't be surprised if Tkachuk gets some discipline for that. Guy walks the line every game. But he clearly went over it on that play
And again, refs fail to make the right call and call a penalty. Brutal on the ref's part.

That and he seems pissed that he's doing it as a rookie, like you need to earn the right to play this way. Guess what Drew, Tkachuk doesn't give a @#£&!

It wasn't a hit. It was an elbow to the head. If that was on Gaudreau we'd have 8 threads up already calling for Doughty"s head.
How is calling out a clear cheap elbow to the head "pussification of the world"? Literally makes no sense.

In fairness his stats from late November on are elite to go along with all the team stats since that time. That 5-10-1 start is the sole reason we aren't a true contender at this point but that could change in the final 10 here if we keep our current pace. Exciting stuff! Haven't been this pumped in a while!

It doesn't matter if it was a dirty elbow or not,Doughty played the rest of the game. According to the NHL wheel of justice there will most likely be no supplemental discipline. If Doughty was injured you would more likely see a suspension.

See, the thing about that camera angle is this: If you look at Tkachuk's right arm, his elbow is where the yellow/white stripes are on the jersey arm.
But if one does a frame-by-frame play, it seems like the first point of contact is clearly in the red part of Tkachuk's jersey, and close enough to the first letter of his name bar to be at the top of the shoulder. You never actually see the yellow/white stripes of left arm make contact with Doughty.
A few frames after the hit, it seems like his left elbow is actually between Doughty's body and left arm.
That being said, it did seem like Tkachuk "launched" himself into Doughty... so Tkachuk intended to make a hit of some kind.
Do I have a case for a shoulder-hit?

The elbow to the head was followed up by a retaliation elbow to the head. Two wrongs.
Could have been a difference maker in the game.

30 minutes a game of this Gio instead of 22 would be pretty ****ing beastmode.
