I wonder what FanIn80 has to say now, considering that the issue was duplicated on the new Bell HSPA network, going from full bars of service to nothing at all.
lol at Apple.

So who's getting this bad boy next month?
I'll pick one up unlocked, but will continue to use my 3GS as my primary phone until a good Twitter app is released for Android. That is the sole reason I am using an iPhone.

It didn't go to nothing at all, it went to 1 bar, which still works.

No, just the bottom left one.
But the more of the phone you cover with your body the worse it will get. I imagine swallowing the phone would result in pretty poor reception.

Allegedly the gap on the opposite (right) side of the phone will make the Wi-fi signal drop a bar or two. I don't have an i4, don't take my word for it... just what I heard.

Add me to the iPhone haters groups. I had the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G I ditched my 3G when it became so buggy I was restarting it about 3 times a day just to keep the thing running. Switched over to a Palm Pre and was happy with it. Just got my gigantic HTC Evo 4G Friday I have to say that the Android OS shows alot more promise than the iOS. Even the WebOS showed more promise, but I couldn't sit around and wait for it in this limbo period.

iPhone 4 is a massive improvement from iPhone 3G. There is no comparison. That said, Android is indeed the future of smartphones, IMO.

Thing is, what about Palm? HP is not going to sit around and do nothing, and WebOS had one of the best user interfaces despite Palm not being able to market the phone.
Going to be a VERY interesting next few years.

Like I said it is very promising but it has been in limbo since the talk of Palm going under to now. There hasn't been an OS update to my pre since Feburary.

If you wait a few months though, there will be some Android phone available with a 1024x768 screen and 2ghz processor. Then all you're doing is getting a brand new phone that's already behind. Apple fans have to get the new iPhone while it still leads the pack in some ways, such as screen resolution.

No stopping Android now. They will be the clear front runner in a month or 2.

Google said last month that 160,000 Android-powered devices were being activated worldwide every day, a stunning number that would put Android on a pace to sell more than 58 million phones in a year--roughly the same number of Apple iPhones sold since it hit the market in 2007.

Devices based on the Google OS represented a 34% share of the U.S. market in the second quarter, compared to 32.1% for the BlackBerry and 21.7% for the iPhone, Canalys reported Monday. Android smartphones soared to the top on a growth rate of 851% year to year.
|
Considering Android was a bit player even a year ago, there is no stopping them now. Apple's only chance at slowing momentum is to get on Verizon now. The problem is they need Verizon way more than Verizon needs them.
Apple will probably always have their niche following (much like macs) and Blackberry doesn't have a real competitor to their BES yet. Don't see where there is room for Palm. Everyone is throwing all their R&D money at Android now too, they are only going to get stronger.

I don't know if I would have ever called Android a bit player, small market share when it started out of course but with Google behind it.. not surprised that they're right there in the middle, given how poor the phone OS landscape looked at the time.
More interesting info:
http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/...mobile-market/
Especially interesting is the low % of BB users that plan to stick with BB, that's a # that should concern RIM.. RIM's problem is they serve two masters.. they have to keep the corporate clients but have to appeal to the mass market as well if they want to continue to compete there vs. Apple and Android.

The amazing part is that Android is only going to get better in terms of user interface and how fast it can be.
Once Froyo comes out it will impress even more people.

And that makes buying an iPhone 4 different from buying one of the current Android phones how?

True... so you've got me, why do iPhone people do this? Why do they need the phone on day one? Insanity?

Why not? If there's no difference between getting the phone on day one and day 15, why not pick day one?
Personally when I decided that I was going to upgrade my phone, I checked all my options and the iPhone 4 was my best option, being on Fido and being unwilling to buy a phone outright.
So deciding that, why not have fun doing it? Go to the store early, stand in line and shoot the breeze with some other geeks for a while, get a nice phone. It's a unique kind of day, something out of the ordinary for a work day. What's wrong with that?

Well, I'd think most people actually wait to upgrade until a 'new' phone comes out.
Then they got buy it on the first day.
