Not sure why Germany does that when they can easily beat the US and secure first without breaking a sweat.
I am far from a fan of ESPN, i rarely watch it. That being said, I have found their World Cup coverage fantastic this year - they have great panels and I haven't found the rah-rah any more extreme than I would find from other country. Much to my surprise their coverage has been awesome

Ghana has the tie breaker against US if they will like 1-0 and America loses, right? That seems like probably the most likely scenario that knocks the US out.
Ghana needs to beat Portugal, Germany needs to beat USA and one of those has to be by more than a goal - that's Ghana's scenario. Not completely far fetched either
I wouldn't put much into the latest mooning of this thread.
Didn't watch the game, but 5 minutes of injury time? Was that much really warranted?
Absolutely. Heck, there were two wasted minutes in injury time alone (there was a substitution that started at 89:51 and Howard didn't return the ball to play until 91:12 plus another 30 seconds on a goal kick). Lots of American "injuries" in the last 10-15 minutes as well.

Even more scenarios than that - if Ghana and Germany both win by one goal, Ghana still goes through if they score at least 2 more goals than the US.
Wouldn't US and Germany just play to a draw and both teams will advance? What's the motivation for both sides to beat each other and risk losing the game? I guess you can count on good human nature that Klinsmann won't talk to Lowe before the game?
Chances for either Ghana or Portugal to advance exist in the realm of mathematics only.

I'm all for the US going far. Even if you keep it to totally selfish reasons, such as getting Canada to the World Cup:
-Grow the game in NA
-Give credit to the MLS, let the league go into a great place to develop Canadians at a high level
-Have a CONCACAF team do well and possibly lead to an increase in CONCACAF slots in future World Cups

Disappointing result considering how close the US was to advancing with a game to spare.
The good news is 4 points which gives they them a 76% chance to advance. Better odds than Mexico, Italy, Ivory Coast, and La Suisse according to FiveThirtyEight's model: http://fivethirtyeight.com/interactives/world-cup/
The bad news is Ghana can still do what they've done the last 2 WC to the US.
