I think it might be too late already for Dallas. They only have 25 games left at this point and realistically can only lose 7 games (18 wins would take them to 90 points).

Burrows a very good fit with them though, still can play up and down the lineup and great on the pk

They need help on d too if they are thinking about this year, their young guys aren't ready for not this year

They could be a team that trades for a goalie though, they don't have to protect either of their goalies now, and could make a good offer to someone who might have to potentially lose one for free

I agree. It really isn't just a single thing for that team. They have 6 games before the trade deadline (also have their bye week so they won't be practicing). If they can't win 4 of 6 you would think they will shift to sellers mode, if they have not already.

6'5'' center. Most likely a career 4th liner, maybe of interest to a team looking for depth.

In what's been described as a relatively thin year for U.S. college free agents, (The) Ohio State University defenceman Josh Healey is making something of a name for himself.

He’s a throwback blueliner; a big open-ice hitter of some renown.
"Old school – keep your head up when he's on the ice," one NHL executive said of the 22-year-old from Edmonton who has generated interest from almost every NHL club.

Healey is listed at 6-feet and 196 pounds. Scouts say he's a decent first-pass defenceman but his forte is open-ice hitting and playing a hard, physical game. He projects as a depth or perhaps third-pairing type defenceman. He’s not a sure bet to play in the NHL, but certainly worth a shot.

Meanwhile, another free-agent defenceman attracting NHL interest is 25-year-old Czech Jakub Jerabek, who plays for Chekhov Vityaz in the KHL. Jerabek is free to come to the NHL once his KHL season is over.

The sub 6-footer (5-foot-10, 182 pounds) is a good skating and skilled offensive-minded blueliner. Multiple NHL teams have expressed interest in signing him.

Because he's 25, Jerabek can be signed to an entry-level contract, but only for one year.

Both sound intriguing.

We could potentially offer a pretty fast track to any skilled enough defenceman in that age range. We clearly have a strong history with signing Czechs too.

That's something this team is desperately needing and if they could get a young kid to stick with the team and develop (even as a bottom pairing guy who provides a physical presence) it would be good. Fast offensive blue liners are good but "old school" guys are needed and underrated.

I do not believe that even if the Flames manage to squeak into the playoffs are they in a position to do anything other than get swept.

I think I would prefer that they would be sellers at this point

E.J. Hradek, who was part of the conversation, wondered if the Calgary Flames might be a player for Duchene.

Hradek speculated about a package involving someone like a Sam Bennett, goaltending prospect Tyler Parsons, and something else.

“You know, I have to tell you – Calgary might be the one team I haven’t heard in all of this,” said a smiling Friedman. “But it doesn’t mean that that’s not the case. I think the biggest question in Calgary would be if you look, they’ve got a lot of their guys signed. Gaudreau is signed. Monahan is signed. You know in a couple of years they’ve going to have to sign Tkachuk. Giordano is signed. Brodie is signed. I think the biggest question is if they’re going to deal with goaltending after the season, does that leave them room to do Matt Duchene.”
