Maybe this year ends up being worse, maybe it doesn't, but I think people are forgetting how bad last year was. It was almost a record
Either way, I look forward to having the exact same discussion next March as well. It's always the worst year

Then folks started blowing through the stop sign intersection next to my house. It was because there were no street markings and a huge tree was blocking the view sign.
A week later the tree was trimmed back, and brand new street markings were laid down. Haven't heard anyone lean on the horn in months now!
I figure the 311 folks are just sitting there waiting for the phone to ring. When they do it's all "red alert! scramble trucks! deploy deploy deploy!"

In a city with over 1.2 million I'm sure there will be some requests that take time or maybe are not deemed possible but I have had nothing but good experiences with 311. I would encourage anyone that has concerns about potholes or anything city related to use 311 as it's beneficial to everyone.

I'm not debating it was bad last year as it was. As a driver of strictly cars (save for one SUV) over my life I have always run vehicles with lower profile tires making it necessary to pay more attention to road conditions and to me it seems like the roads are getting worse as another poster noted the city is using a lot more road salt than decades past which probably factors in with a growing population. The way things are trending I wouldn't be surprised the least if next spring is worse because they can only re-pave so many roads in a summer season.

Exactly. If you look it up in the news potholes are always an item around this time of the year. Sometimes it’s “X amount worse” and sometimes they aren’t. Last year, I believe, they also put in a pretty concentrated effort in fixing as many as possible, above and beyond the usual amount they fix in a year.
People saying it’s “definitely worse” but then, if we assume it’s at least as bad as last year, pointing to a number that accounts for less than 1% of the total, or roughly 1 extra pothole for every 70-80km of road… is funny.
Imagine driving to Canmore, seeing one extra pothole during your entire drive, being able to actually perceive that pothole as one over the normal, and thinking “wow, it’s DEFINITELY worse!” It’s just not likely.

Seriously, the pothole near my office? It's 'fixed.'
It genuinely looks like they filled it with sand and called it a day.
I dont know if that qualifies as 'fixed.'

On less important roads they’ll come in to do a temporary fix to reduce the hazard and will usually come back within a 2-3 months to make a more permanent fix.
I imagine all of Ogden counts as less important. Perhaps entirely unimportant, but maybe it’s all semantics.

Yes, yes, but our beloved and esteemed Mayor wants to plunk a Train Station right there, so you'd best take care of that community!

Nonsense. The CP Rail Yards are right there and have been for a Century?

Yeah exactly, they will roll into those yards and finalize the trainification of that part of Calgary

What’s the point of low profile tires?
Is there an actual benefit?

Stiffer sidewalls for improved handling, lower rolling resistance for improved fuel economy/efficiency, ability to fit larger wheels which is a looks benefit on most cars. Lots of cons for a daily driver such as worse ride, worse handling on uneven pavement, and less wheel protection.

Correct, technically the term is "Look Cool Factor"
I've seen many situations where that has overridden intelligence.

When a nerdy co-worker takes a piss next to you and lets out a big grandma fart as if his ass has labia that look like Homers lips when he burps. I just said "fata" and got the hell out of there.

I think those dudes that let out rippers when you're at the urinal are so disgusting. Like, I get that we're in the bathroom and maybe it's not crazy, but on the other hand, I really don't want to hear that or be in the vicinity of your fart.
Just crop dust a crowd like a normal person. Then at least there's plausible deniability and the victims have each other to lean on for support. If it's just me and a farter in the bathroom, I have to pretend that didn't just happen and I'm a bad actor, so it puts me in a stressful position.

Good thing it wasn't in a crowded elevator where you couldn't get out quickly. Imagine the smell...the burning of the eyes...
