Priakin wasn't good, but he opened the door for players like Makarov. Makarov was good.

Oh for sure, it's just kind of why get this guy instead of seeing how our own guys develop.
Meh, maybe side effect of being underwhelmed with not making another more meaningful move today.
Doesn't really move the needle either way.

They did trade 2 of their top 4 as well.
I assume its a battle between this guy, Harley, Paschal and Miromonov to see who plays the last 3 spots after Andersson, Kylington and Weegar.

Oh, add him to the zadorov trade tree. The 5th they used came from the Zad trade

They can do both. I think with that level of D propsects you need a lot becauase only a couple will make it.

It's a pretty clever tactic. Don't want to play for the Flames? Alrighty then, send me a postcard from whatever Ukranian hamlet you end up dying in.

Is he waiver exempt?

Not happy about giving up a draft pick, I want them stock piled. The more the better.
But the pro scouts and Conroy seem to have an eye for decent NHL players. They've picked up some good players off of waivers, if they're giving up a pick for this guy he should be a solid addition.

I wonder if they think there is some moneyball angle where they think teams are undervaluing Russian assets?

The emphasis on D men is interesting too. You can never have enough good defenders.

Who would be upset about acquiring a young dman who has been playing in the NHL this season, seems to be steady defensively, is gritty and like to hit?
Especially when all it cost was a 5th rd pick!!
This is an awesome deal cause it seems SJ had too many dmen.
Even if he ends up being a tweener, all it cost us was a 5th.
A 5th is much less valuable than what we just got - someone with immediate NHL potential as a top 6D.

This guy's never been waived though and hasn't been in the minors except on a conditioning stint at the beginning of the season.
