I just bought a Stanley mug. And I only use one when we drive places, which is a few times a year really... This f..n' thread made me do it.

I don't know if Contigo ever made their design better, but.. I would suggest you take your "clean" Contigo coffee mug, put some water in there, and give it a good shake and then empty that into a clear glass.

I have a well-used Contigo 20 oz west loop with me. I was curious so I took you up on your challenge.
First I gave it a quick rinse because I used it earlier today, then filled it half full of water like you suggested, gave it a vigorous shaking, and poured it into a clear mug.
I'm happy to report it was clear water with no floaties or suspended particles. I guess my dishwasher is doing a good job!
(Several years ago Contigo did revise the lid to give much better access under the cap. I remember the older lids and yeah, they were impossible to fully clean if the dishwasher wasn't doing the job.)

That’s good to hear. My earlier experiences turned me off, but maybe I can give it another chance. We had ones with the spring-loaded push button and ended up having to use a really narrow bottle brush to get in and do a thorough cleaning.

Now the innards snap into place in this position:
..and you can still push the spring-loaded bit up to get more access.

Looks like they redesigned the lids to make everything accessible. The old ones were not great.

I'm the opposite. I've heard of and seen Yeti, but never heard of Stanley (the mug Stanley, not the tools Stanley) until my friend told me about this...

For the caps, could you have just used a container with lid and shook it in soapy water, like it was a shaker ball in a protein bottle, to clean it?
Protein shaker type bottles might actually be perfect for that.

When I first saw them last year, I thought they looked liked 7-11 big gulp rip offs. I couldn't understand why people wanted them.

Ive had my Yeti since 2019.
It's possible I was the first and the reason they're so popular.

Nobody has time for that. It was apparently a poor early design, with too many hard to reach nooks and crannies. I ran it through the dishwasher and it was still never completely clean. If you can’t hand wash it or run it through a dishwasher cycle to get it thoroughly clean in one go, it’s not worth the hassle. Simplicity is better sometimes, and in the end it’s just a coffee container. I am not running around with the thing upside-down. It just needs to hold liquid while being held upright.

A girl on Calgary's Facebook Marketplace is allowing people to take photos with her pink stanley cup for $5 each at Chinook Centre. Apparently she was completely booked for Wednesday already.

Just be thankful we have access to clean, potable water. Why, back in my day we'd have to cup our hands if we wanted to drink from the garden hose......
