I hope we can be this year's Pittsburgh Penguins from last year.

Doesn't it look like Roger is passing the mic to Dougie?

The only ones trying to keep pace at this point are the rest of the NHL. The Flames are smokin'

Great game overall. Just came from the 'Dome. I don't know if it was because it was an afternoon game and there was a ton of children instead of drunks, but holy crap it was quiet. Eerily quiet. WTF people?!?

Isles played pretty listlessly for the most part. Elliott looked good until that 2nd goal. But he was very strong all night. 3M line was flying and Johnny was getting people out of their seats.

I said in the GDT, but Matt Martin was the Hathaway for the Islanders for years. Was always a pest and really got under the Flames' skin. They looked like a different team without him this game.

Reffing was BS. Finally got to see it first hard. Versteeg literally got hooked in the throat, no call. Didn't get to see the replay on the Gaudreau diving call. But it sure looked like he got sticked in the face from where I was sitting.

Nice thing is we can have a pretty poor finish now and still make the playoffs. 7 wins with an OT loss or 2 should do it

Sweet - Flames second only to the Blackhawks, and the Oilers playing .500 hockey since the ASB.

This has been a great hockey team for 50 games now, playing at a 107 point pace over that time.

Overall NHL Standings over the last 50GP:

#1 - Washington 35-9-6 = 76pts
#2 - Minnesota 35-10-5 = 75pts
#3 - Columbus 33-13-4 = 70pts
#4 - Pittsburgh 31-13-6 = 68pts
#5 - Chicago 32-15-3 = 67pts
#6 - San Jose 30-13-7 = 67pts
#7 - Calgary 31-16-3 = 65pts

They were 24-17-8 at the all-star break.

Really just shows how hard it is to make up ground. The Kings and Blues would both have to go on runs like the Flames are now to even have a chance of catching the Flames.

Agreed. They have made a very big difference.

It's funny that Bartkowski has ended up being a positive part of the Flames after having been part of the trade that never was.

Just in from the game. Total domination at the start--they're playing an up-tempo game that is super enjoyable to watch!

Some thoughts:

-people commenting on how quiet it was in the Dome--seemed to me like it was half empty for a long time. Maybe whatever was going on in the round-up centre delayed parking/arrivals...

-cool in-house promotion for "Kids' Day" or whatever it was. Both Beesely and Willy Joosen had kids replace them during parts of the pre-game/first period. Awesome!

-haven't been to a game in a month or so...when did they put in the "Lion King Cam"? That is SO funny!

-Lots of Isles fans in attendance (which I like--it's my second favourite team and the only team in the NHL worthy of wearing blue and orange). Didn't realize how many players on those old Isles cup-winning teams were from Western Canada...And Hickey being from Calgary helps increase the number of Isles jerseys seen at the Dome.

-Speaking of jerseys, saw a beauty "Mikko Makela", a "Guerin" (forgot he played on Long Island for a couple seasons at the end), a "Peca", and several "Bossy / Trottier" jerseys. And then I saw and old-school (like, straight from the 1980s) Flames "Tonelli" and that made my friggin' night!

-Loving Ferland's fit on the first line right now. Other than his goal, he made an awesome pass up to Monny when Gaudreau missed the open net (high and wide). I'm really hoping he might turn out to be a kind of "Gary Roberts - Lite"...

-It's nice having a big body like Stone in front of the net. He adds a physical presence that only Engelland has really consistently provided. Plus he seems to be a different kind of anchor for Brodie than Wideman was (i.e. Stone's "anchor" means "stability"). It's nice to see Brodie being Brodie again.

-Can anyone confirm whether or not that Isles-on-Isles hit was the Sportsbet "Crunch Of The Game"? Because it should have been.

-And what else can be said about Brain Elliott right now other than: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poWg8sDWETk

Bartkowski is already signed for next season so it's only Stone they have to worry about.
