I haven't read a single post yet but just got to say I've always liked Smid. He's got character and can play. Always sticks up for teammates as well.

Agreed, and most importantly when we have a healthy line up, will ensure Brodie doesn't get overplayed and gets played in the right spots more often, which should help his development.

I liked Horak, but after many saying Smid would probably benefit Flames more than Horak ever will, it's a fair trade. Helps the defensive depth which Flames could really use.

But Brossiot does have the potential to be a #1 (the chances of him achieving that is arguable). That may come back to bite the Flames later.

It would appear the Flames have extreme confidence in Gillies.

I doubt that "most of CP" have even posted anything about Smid in the last few years. I certainly haven't. Why would I have? He's a good NHL player but I simply would have had no reason to talk about it. Probably the case for most.

Roy's a goofy looking kid. Just need to wash off the Oilers stank.
I wonder if he gets sent to Alaska now?

Smid's only 27, thought he was older. Horak couldn't make this team, great trade.

Flames won this trade. Brossoit is a wild card that could leave me eating crow but when you get an NHL top 4 defenseman for 2 expandable prospects you do that every chance you get.
|
Expandable prospects are probably the most value! They can be many sizes!

I've got nothing against Smid, he's a good defenceman. This just feels like it came out of nowhere, I would have never expected Brossoit to be traded.... and to the Oilers no less.
Crazy.
Good deal for the Flames though, Smid makes them better than they were yesterday.

Burke isn't the GM... Feaster worked on this with Mactavish.
