The meltdowns on here if they don't pick Iginla will be legendary.

Yes. Unless his last name changes to Yzerman.

I think the only scenarios where the Flames don't draft Tij are either we won the lottery and take Celebrini, or someone else takes Tij before the Flames get a chance to.

I used to think this but Dissentowners post about Jarome's aversion to the flames taking Tij has me doubting it now

Don't think those are the only scenarios. Dad not wanting all the heat on his son in a Flaming C is another. And one I believe to be the truest.

Eiserman has some real flaws that he will need to work on. Doesn't seem like a guy that is going to quickly translate to the NHL. Hands are there for sure, though.
IMO, Eiserman has a higher ceiling and a lower floor than Iginla. But only a bit higher ceiling, but a much lower potential floor. If Eiserman can't figure out the other aspects of his game he's going to be pretty one dimensional at the NHL level.

I'm all for picking Iginla- I have even stated here I think he's just as talented as Catton personally.
But it would be really hard seeing Eiserman left on the board. Remember people were dumping on Caufield for being too one way and definitely too small, and he has come through a pretty great player. Eiserman has elite goal scoring ability, just the same if not better than Caufield. Lots of questions about his d game but he's average height and weight unlike Caufield.

Yeah, the Flames reaching for Iginla is the worst thing they can do for themselves and Tij. If they end up with a pick in the 12-15 range then I think it is fine.

Obviously we as flames fans would be excited for the story of Tij getting drafted by this team. Absolutely. I want the flames to draft the best player available no matter what. There is a strong argument for Tij to be that player at 11th overall. It’s not nepotism that has made him a highly-touted prospect. He’s one of the youngest players in the draft and he has had a fantastic season. He is likely the biggest riser in draft ranking over the season. He was named his team’s MVP this year - which is impressive with how young he is and considering the other players on his team (Cristall). All that points to a player that is progressing really well and potentially has more room to grow. That’s something you want to see from a first round pick. Add in the pedigree of his family and you have great reasons to draft a player like that.
If Jarome and the flames agree what is best for Tij is to not be drafted by the flames, I can respect that. Unfortunately, we would never know if that’s true if he turns into a star player elsewhere.
I think some are concerned the flames end up picking 8th overall and “reach” for Iginla. My bigger concern would be if the flames end up picking 11th overall and “reach” for a player ranked lower than Iginla. That would be tough to swallow.

Won't be top 15 but Toronto would likely trade #20-24 for say #26-30 to add another pick, they don't pick till the 5th round after their first.
If someones still on the board that Conny likes at say #22 and Vancouver's is #28 does Conny pull the trigger?
#28 and late 2nd(Dallas) for #22

good thing we're winning the lottery, so the Tij thing won't be a factor anyway.

I don’t know the guy at all but I’m still pretty certain he’d abstain from any comment on choosing Tig. He’s not even a scout… they’ll go by their list.

Conroy has mentioned that the Flames scouts really liked Adam Lowry in 2011, but the organization didn't draft him as Dave Lowry was employed by the team. He called out that, in hindsight, not drafting Adam due to a family connection was not the best decision. Based on what we've seen from Conroy, he learns from past mistakes (ex: walking players to free agency and losing them for nothing). I feel confident that if the scouts think Tij is the best player available, Conroy will draft him. Conroy also joked he'd fire Iggy if he needed to in order to daft Tij if he thought Tij was the best player for the Calgary Flames.

I think Tij has had a better draft year than Eiserman regardless.

speaking of Eiserman, it will really be fascinating to see where he goes ... at this point, I think I would be surprised if he still went top 10. If you take him, you really need to be convinced he can score goals at a good clip in the NHL, because he pretty much doesn't do anything else and you're completely ####ed if his scoring doesn't translate.
