The crux of it is that we all have family who are from Ukraine or who still live there. For me, I have many relatives from my mom's side who are there. Thankfully they relocated further west and are relatively safe.
When the conflict broke out I started sending what money I could to a couple different organizations for war efforts and aid. But when you are around and connected to this wonderful Ukrainian community here in Calgary and your relatives abroad, it really starts to hurt you in a deep way hearing all of the people who are affected by the war and it made me feel useless... Eventually sending money was no longer assuaging the profound sense of guilt I felt for not being there. That is when my friends and I had serious discussions and began putting that money aside for this. I don't have bloodlust but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't angry.
Man, I totally get it. At some point, seeing the world not step up like they should to support Ukraine, various deadlines of weapons and ammunition supplies and such failing to be met, politicians still scared of bull#### eSCaLaTIoN, and the russians poking the western bear every single day and failure after failure to show strength towards them, it gets to you. You and your buddies have balls of steel to head over there and fight for what you believe in.
Stay safe and best wishes to your family there.

Can we at least crowdfund you a couple DJI drones and money to buy plate and a carrier?
That's a very kind offer my friend but I have everything I need and a great group of guys over there who are procuring the rest. And truth be told, I don't feel comfortable accepting money from others anyway. Even my relatives here in canada had to "badger" me almost daily to take a little before I finally gave in . But again thank you, I appreciate the sentiment.
And also thank you to the rest of you for the kind words and thoughts. It truly is a special community on CP.

This might be useful, or not.
When I was overseas my mom wanted to do something. So she would send care packages. I mentioned in a letter early on that dudes like a lot of the stuff she was sending. She sent powdered Gatorade, Trail Mix and some other stuff, I always shared what I got, most dudes did.
She took to then focusing more on those things and would send more so I was able to share more.
It "gave her something to do".
That might help your with friends/relatives wanting to send money.
Tell them you will let them know what is needed once you understand what is needed.
You can always tell them and if they want they can send things for everyone.
PS: dudes will love you.
PPS: do not show them photos of your girlfriend sends to you of her in lingerie (#### I was dumb at times).

You've hit a new low, Yoho. The guy had decided to fight for his family and country of heritage. It's an incredibly selfless act and we should be wishing him well, not trying to discourage him.
I'm sure he knows the risks and accepts them. He's a better man than you (or I) will ever be.

I’m sure people are actively seeking life advice for something as serious as going to war from the guy who livestreams protests because he can’t even be bothered to physically stand up for something he believes in and spends every day crying about the government that he takes handout after handout from.

Lol you can’t even come to work and your cheering this guy to go and put his life in grave danger in a foreign country.
I don’t think a sobering second thought is the worst thing in the world.
If you all want to cheer this on be my guest, but I think his life is worth more than this.
That is the reality of war. Peace and freedom come at a terribly high cost. People aren't putting their lives on the line fighting in Ukraine for the fun of it.

Oh right, I forgot, you’re terrified of the c-train.
Another reason why I’m sure people who are willing to serve their country or make the ultimate sacrifice to protect democracy really value your opinion.

Cheering, or respecting his decision?
So now being forced into disability against my will from work related health issues = can't come to work. Yup, was definitely my choice to lose my dream job
Comes into the thread to troll a guy who wants to risk his life for others, then trolls me for losing the job that I loved because it involved risking my life for others. He's also mentioned several times that he thinks Ukraine should just surrender.
Yoho, ladies and gentleman

That was disgusting by yoho, especially towards Btimbit. This is where I wish mods had a pair of balls, collectively and just said "that's enough of that guy forever".
But unfortunately, they don't, and he'll just sit his week out and be back crappier than ever when they unleash him, with mods thinking they handled it perfectly while he comes back and craps over the message board relentlessly.
