'Well, I'm sure you guys have got this. Good luck!' Is not how I think the states will leave this, barring some horrific incident like Trump getting back into power.
God help us if that's the case though.

Unless there is some big secret plan for the EU to take over Ukraine funding and the US to focus solely on Israel, I can't imagine any scenario where the US just stops aid to Ukraine in the midst of their war. Given how this is pretty much the best bang-for-buck scenario they will EVER have in finally taking down russia without any dead Americans, it makes no sense whatsoever to leave in the middle of it. Kicking the can down the road does nothing, when that price of containment will increase tenfold if russia wins. I get that there are some dumbass politicians in that country, but I think most realize it makes no sense to abandon Ukraine.
According to that article, it comes down to have a house speaker selected. So I don't think it's as big an issue as it's made out to be. Aid isn't going to stop anytime soon. Russia isn't going to be allowed to win. Makes no sense to take the boil-the-frog approach, only to save the frog at the end.

This is currently a huge problem. There were two candidates to replace McCarthy. Scalise, and Jordan. Scalise is a known white supremacist and has already withdrew because he will not have the backing of the Freedom Caucus nutjobs like public handjob Boebert, Jewish space lasers cause global warming MTG, pedophile sex trafficker Matt Gaetz, etc. Sex scandal cover up, and Jan 6 insurrectionist, Jim Jordon of the Freedom Caucus, will never have the backing of the "moderate" Republicans. Literally no one else wants the job herding corrupt clown show that is the Republican US House atm and the majority needed to select a speaker is going to be near impossible when the GOP majority is thin.
The Freedom Caucus nutjobs, who are pro Russian, already tried to make the entire US debt ceiling rise contingent on deep spending cuts and withdraw of Ukrainian military aid. They succeed in getting that suspended with the last debt ceiling deal. This is why Biden is trying to put together a proposal to bulk send nearly $100B in military aide at once to try to force something in when the opportunity comes up. This isn't that Biden and the US government proper isn't committed to Ukraine. Without a House Speaker, legislative agendas are completely frozen and nothing will get tabled in the House i.e. financial approvals are pooched. Any House speaker selected has a high chance of meeting the same fate as McCarthy so there is going to be significant risk to Ukrainian aid consistency from the US going forward with the small Freedom Caucus nutjobs holding the entire US government hostage to get what they want. Conservative Americans chose this either intentionally or through sheer stupidity.

This is how the US has conducted themselves time and time again. It's our fault if we continue to hold them in high regard with expectations they've never lived up to despite their promises.

That Sochi thing sounds like Russia shot themselves. All Ukraine has to do is send harmless drones and the Russians will punch themselves in the face.
Quote:
During the drone attack on Sochi and its outskirts on Oct. 14, the Russian air defense system inadvertently struck its own territory, as seen in a video posted on social media by a local resident who recorded the failure of the Russian air defense system.
The video shows a missile launched from the Olympic city’s anti-aircraft missile system not headed skyward, but rather veers off course directly above the rooftops of apartment buildings, followed by a loud explosion.
“######kkkkk!,” commented the author of the video on yet another mishap by Russian military forces.

I just watched the new Mission Impossible movie, and for a movie full of completely impossible things, probably the most unbelievable was Russia making the most advanced submarine in the world. Hollywood is going to have to figure out a new badguy nation to portray, Russia just doesn't cut it anymore

I would hope the Canadian designer and builder goes to Ukraine to get feedback and tweak the design.
