This is an interesting thread. Not sure if legit, but it sounds like something Putin would do.

An intervention now doesn’t threaten the Russian state. It doesn’t threaten anything but the Russian army.

I don’t think Putin has ever been in this game just to die. And I don’t think his actions are “crazy” - I think they’re hyper rational. I think they’re an enormous gamble. But they’re not crazy.

He’s doing this because he thinks it will work and he can get away with it.

Failing to intervene will make it impossible to denuclearize any other nation via guaranteeing their security.
If you believe Putin is acting rational, what do you think he's looking to gain?

He admitted being cornered

What the United States is doing in Ukraine is at our doorstep,” he said of Washington’s support for Kyiv. “And they should understand that we have nowhere further to retreat to.

I think he's probably cornered politically, no? He has to win this now. If he turns around or fails, he's done.

I find it interesting how easily Anonymous has managed to disrupt Russian government infrastructure, that seems embarrassing for Russia in terms of cyber defense. But maybe they're only getting at things that aren't particularly important or well protected. Still, it would be pretty funny if Kremlin.ru just started running that Zelenskyy speech on repeat.

Semi-related. Browser’s book - Red Notice was definitely an interesting read.

No. He can't.

There were all kinds of options...before he invaded.

There really is no turning around, throwing his hands up and saying 'whoops.'

Other neighbours are rushing to join NATO. All Russia could get is some land. Russia is already the largest country in the world AND in Europe (European part of Russia is larger than any European country, including Ukrane). It would be a net negative for Russia.

Kremlin ru is indeed down, but most Anonymous claims are exaggerated.

I wonder if Canada will ban Russian planes from our airspace as well?

Ukrainians are only defending their country.

Anything happens in Russia, it should be blatantly obvious.

Too late for the Olympics but I think Russia should be barred from all international competitions, including the upcoming hockey World Juniors. It's a small thing but coupled with financial penalties it makes a statement.

And when the dog jumps it’s fence and mauls the children across the street, it gets out down.

Blatant attacks on civilian residential buildings need to be met with significant force.

There are no direct Russia-Canada flights. I had to fly via New York to visit Toronto.

I thought I read that the Ukraine ranks quite high on several key natural resources (uranium was one).

Maybe I'm misremembering.
