How do you guys always know these planes are coming in? Is there a way to set something up on Flightaware?

Ugh, I missed it, didn't tune back into this thread in time. It's really too bad cause I am right up by the airport on Barlow and Mcknight and it looks like it took off that way... Sigh...

Register a free account on Flightaware and you can setup up to 10 free flight notifications.

Two of my settings are flightplans to YYC with the Antonov 124 and flightplans departing YYC.

I got photos of both the arrival and departure, should have them up later. Will post them here.

I saw that thing this afternoon from the deep south. It was turning toward the airport, and it just seemed surreal how slow it appeared to be going. It looked so huge, just lumbering along.

The Lun ekranoplan weighs 380 tons, has a 148-foot wingspan and can launch six anti-ship missiles from flight. Or rather, it could, before it was retired to a forlorn pier in southern Russia.
The dilapidated plane is the offspring of an even larger prototype ship that so spooked the CIA in the 1960s that they developed an unmanned drone to spy on it, an alleged program detailed in the new book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base.
Deployed much later, in 1987, the Lun (a more contemporary behemoth) was an improvement over the previous model. It remained in service until the 1990s, when it was mothballed by the Russian military. The once-fearsome Lun will likely never fly again and is now little more than a chunk of aerodynamic scrap metal.
Alternately described as an amphibious aircraft or a flying boat, the plane is a feat of engineering that has been reduced to a footnote in aviation history. Read on for a look inside this aging relic and the ambitious program that spawned it.

Ah yes, the Russian "Wing in Ground Effect" vehicles. The largest being the Caspian Sea Monster. Pretty cool concept.

Was travelling through Chicago down to Fort Lauderdale and saw a 787 sitting off to the side. Snapped a few pics with the iPhone.

That poor thing has been sitting there for months and they can't even fly it home.

One of the LOT 787 was at Paine Field to do a battery certification test. They're done testing and the changes are in the review stage, basically, they're waiting on FAA approval on the changes.

The Antonov was just on Discovery channels "Mighty Planes" the other day. Pretty crazy cargo jet.

I'm shocked that LOT bought a 787.

lol that sounds about right. They do only have one real major international airport.

Although LOT did give me two free beers on a 25 minute flight after telling me not bring my own on next time

... at 9 am.
