I'm sure he'll be fine, but how are the Giants? Is this the right spot for him?

It would be interesting. I believe in the NFL - they track consensus of the online rankings (an averaging of rankings) and the players who are picked way above the consensus end up performing worse than the consensus but the people who fall below the consensus rankings often don't pan out.
The logic being that it only takes one team to make a 'reach' but a bunch of teams have to pass on a player to have him be a faller.

It drives me bonkers when people put all prospects into the same bucket of developmental expectations.
Players who play a physical game - even if it's just in the sense of using their body to protect the puck - take longer to develop than those who only rely on speed. Unless you're a freak of nature like Eric Lindros, you're not going to be able to bully grown men as a 17 year old. It's just the way it is. (I know he's in the WHL right now, so he's not playing against "grown men" but he's still at that temporary plateau, where smaller players with skillsets that develop faster are starting to blow past him. It's ok though, because once the "my body hasn't finished developing yet" plateau fades, they won't be blowing past him anymore.)
Honzek has all the tools to be a really really good player. A player who can control the game whenever they're on the ice... but he needs to fill out more. He needs time to grow (not in the metaphorical sense, but in the literal sense).

I think the emergence of Tage Thompson set back drafting departments 10 years.

I'm trying to figure out what size he was when he was drafted.
Tkachuk was drafted at 6'1", 194lbs, but in his prime now he's 6'2", 206lbs (for example).
Edit: Looks like Thompson was 6'5" 185lbs - he's now 6'6" 220 lbs (insane!)

And he's kind of normalized this season after a career year. Size is good and all but elite skills trump all measurables.

Same with Cozens.
Not sure what's going on in Buffalo. And I don't watch them enough to even guess.
But a big step back.

I think the old school way is to draft a type where they should draft a player, They never admit to it. Scouts get rock hard at size. I talk to scouts at my kids games, they get giddy talking about their shoe size or the size of the kids mom and dad. Ya but he has the turning radius of a Lincoln Continental and he gets 12 minutes of penalties a game and is a minus 3.

Their goal scoring totally dried up. They aren't nearly the trainwreck Ottawa is as they are actually playing better defense than last season but it seems like all their offensive players regressed outside of maybe Middlestadt. Reminds me of the Flames years back where they would alternate from guys having good offensive years to bad ones. Maybe time for a coaching change as they are at that stage where you would expect season over season improvement.

My weasel groomer's landlord is friends with a scout in his larping club
Says Hozek is the ####, and will be much better than Gabe Perrault who is a paper tiger.

I like the player but a 15% shooting percentage for him really didn’t seem sustainable. He did do it back to back years, but I don’t imagine he hits it many more times in his career. 15% is what Iggy was hovering around when he was lighting it up. Ovechkin has only hit that mark 3 times.

Yup.
There is a certain type of player who shoots 15% with some consistency. That's the low-volume, pass-first guy who never wants to shoot the puck unless it's a grade AAA chance. But those aren't the guys who score 50.
It makes me think of Babe Ruth. He set a record for home runs that lasted for decades, and everybody remembers it. He also set the record for strikeouts, and not many people remember that. But he'd have had a lot fewer homers if he hadn't been so willing to swing the bat.

There's more than a few 50 goal scorers that averaged over 15% for his career but it's a an area reserved mostly for elite players. Draisaitl has been a 18% shooter his entire career.
