Laine is the most soft spoken mature 18 year old I've seen doing interviews. Arrogant?

Laine can barely speak English, how does he come across as arrogant to people...?

I thought Laine was pretty modest and humble after his goal in the game against Edmonton.

If he scores 49 this year, some will say 50 because of the own goal last night. Poor kid. It will be interesting to see how he reacts mentally. Does he go on a tear or slump?

he wasn't trying to clear the puck...he was confused for a split second and wired it into the net...no reason to shoot it that hard trying to clear it
someone in beer league would be absolutely roasted for that...not gonna feel sorry for some 18 year old millionaire lol.

Matthews is more mature (boring) than Laine. YOU ARE WRONG!

And now for the article saying as of now...Matthews is the better player. I think Mirtle does a better job of proving his point than Lawless who kind of just stated his opinion.
Quote:
Matthews has played the bulk of his season with Zach Hyman on his left wing (84 per cent of all even strength minutes) and William Nylander (64 per cent) or Connor Brown (25 per cent) on his right. They’re all rookies. Despite that, Matthews is the Leafs best possession forward (53.9 per cent) and tied for the team lead in goals (a 36-goal pace) and second in points (61-point pace).
That said, Laine is on pace for seven more goals – thanks to dominance on the power play – and three more points than Matthews. If he can do that over 82 games, it’s crazy. But he has typically played with the Jets best players: Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler and Bryan Little. Possession-wise, there’s also little comparison to Matthews, as Laine sits at 45.7 per cent, one of the lower marks on his team.
Laine’s possession numbers are also weaker away from these top players. When he plays with Wheeler, for example, he is at 50 per cent versus 45 per cent when he isn’t. When he is on the ice with Little, he is at 61 per cent compared to 43 per cent when he isn’t.

I just watched Laine's own goal. That has to be embarrassing.
I remember Teemu Selanne in Winnipeg used to be a pretty big show boater after scoring as well, but was also a nice and humble guy in interviews. By the time he retired, he was one of the most respected veterans playing.

Comparing two 18 year olds and trying to say who is better is dumb. What a silly 'debate'. And frankly, who cares? Both players fit a need for their respective teams. Both players have high sky potential. Both players are damned good at what they do? Why do fans have to come out of the wood work and proclaim one is better then the other? Just enjoy what you have and leave it at that.
And the fact that both players were drafted only months ago makes this argument even dumber. It wasn't until recently that we've been able to finalise how the great 2003 draft order should be laid out. Go back and look at the original order and how it is now. Night and day difference. Who's to say the 2016 draft stays the same?
Neither player is 'better' then the other. Christ, they are both 18.

Honestly, who the hell cares?!
It's not like he or any other NHL player takes celebration to NFL touchdown levels, or the Yakupov knee-slide. This is such a ridiculous thing to get worked up about.

As usual you guys are totally missing the point and taking my comment out of context
I stated that he does that to combat the notion that he is some humble shy kid and not arrogant, he obviously isn't
does it matter? you be the judge...honestly I would rather Flames players didn't act like that especially when in 10th place
but nobody is worked up, just stating a facts...dude is arrogant
might be knocked down a peg now though

Any article written by Lawless isn't worth the paper it was printed on.

Arrogant, or confident and enjoying himself at a job he's great at and loves?
