First benchmarking report:
A literal 1% increase @ 1440p from 8.1 to 10. Woo.
EDIT: 1.8% increase once a GPU overclock is applied (vs Overclocked in 8.1. The actual overclock is a 6.5% increase). Yay. Found money I guess.

Just finished updating my Win 7 desktop. I guess it does seem to run a bit faster than before, but can't really say for sure as I've only had it for 20 minutes.

Speaking as someone who spends most of his time trying to decipher Microsoft error logs, that message is more informative than most...

I still haven't got my notification to install... is there a problem?
Also - why wipe and install? Why not just install?
I'm no computer whiz.

If you're talking about PsYcNeT, he's not wiping and installing, he's installing and then wiping.
An easier way to understand it is he's sorta making the computer "reset to factory settings" to get rid of bloatware and other junk.
If you want 10, you can use the link from the previous page and upgrade or use the thumb drive method.

Haha. Not the most helpful of messages, but there's a method to that madness of 'softening' the error messages.
In recent releases (starting around the Windows 8 and Office 2013 era), the trend has been to make user-facing errors messages less cryptic and threatening (so the user doesn't panic or think they royally buggered something) while providing all the logging and debug information in log files or ETLs elsewhere for power users, IT support, and our engineering teams. "Sorry, something went wrong" is a lot less scary to my mum than "Illegal operation occurred" or "Access denied", to give an example.
I do wish the messages were 'softened' while still providing possible root cause in plain language instead of just ending it at that. "Oops, something went wrong. We had a problem processing [file] in [path]. Notify your support person or administrator."
Windows 8 was the first release to use a sad emoticon on bugcheck screens (BSODs). Very Apple-esque, with the sad Mac or sad iPod on boot. The 'Bomb' icon in earlier Mac OS releases was scary as hell as a 6 year old.

There was an optional update in April sometime that enables the optional W10 update. Just install all of the optional updates (probably 60+ or so) and reboot and the option to update to W10 should be there.
As far as wiping goes, I like a fresh clean system at least once a year. Seems as good a time as any.

Some random bits of good news and bad news. The cheapie AMD A8 HP I had sitting around is a little better with Win10. The speakers on another ultrabook have returned to normal after they mysteriously lost their overall volume. However my trackpad on the ultrabook doesn't seem to respond to two touch scrolling anymore. Will have to track down the drivers I guess.

I updated my Win8.1 machine and had no issues except one: the addition of all kinds of useless icons to the Start menu, which then have to be removed one by one. It does boot marginally faster and apps load a bit quicker. Yay!

The windows automatic update for windows 10 has failed and I get some error messages which I've tried to correct but nothing has worked.
I did find this page though which will manually trigger an update to Windows 10. It worked for me and if you want it now, follow these instructions.

They are doing the update in waves. It became available yesterday but may take a few days or even up to two weeks to get the actual update.
They can't send it to everyone at once.

Is it a settings issue? Type in "Mouse" in search, go to touchpad settings and there's a line called "two touch". Click the gear on the line for the settings.
I had the opposite. A laptop without two touch suddenly decided it would go to two touch. I'm happy about that.

I don't even have the choices of looking into the touchpad settings since I'm either loaded with incompatible or missing drivers.
