Not sure if it's news worthy:

The head of the Belarusian hockey federation, Alexander Bogdanovich, just said that Sharangovich didn't go was because Belarus thought it was too expansive to insure both him and Protas. That despite both Yegor and Protas wanting to represent their country. He mentioned that it was a mistake, and that Belarus will pay up next year if they're available.

Quote:
— Next year we will take into account all the mistakes made now. We will immediately prepare for the national team tour, taking into account the mistakes that we see now, taking into account the formation of the squad.

Protas and Sharangovich will be happy to compete for their country, but insurance is crucial. Large sums need to be paid so that they can take to the ice in our matches. And so the guys are always ready to play for our team.
I can link an article in Russian, or you guys can take my word for it. Here it is

EDIT: I just realized Belarus wasn't a part of the tourney, so I don't know what he's talking about. Maybe he just means that next year insurance will be something to consider. Not sure if it's Ukraine related, or they didn't qualify or something. I apologize for the nothing burger.

Moritz Seider also didn't go because of insurance reasons. Not sure if the fact that his contract is up plays into that ... his Red Wings teammate Lucas Raymond is in the same situation and has gone though. Maybe some federations are just cheap when it comes to these things.

Wouldn't that be awesome if Austria has a chance to play for a medal?

Do they have a chance?

They can make the quarters if they beat GB in regulation (10 points) and Finland does not get 4 points in their next two games against Denmark and Switzerland.

I turned on this game, Mangiapane has 3 assists!

like GirlySports said, they need OOT help to qualify for the quarterfinals. Not impossible, but certainly a longshot I'd fully expect Finland to get it together and advance.

But it's been a really, really good tournament for Austria either way. Beat Norway 4-1 today, so no relegation scares this time ... everything else is gravy.

He just broke P. Kane's records for points and assists. I think that's a cool accomplishment, one that NHLers rarely strive for.

Gaudreau rewrote USA hockey history as he moved to 43 points in IIHF World Championship play. That lifts him clear of Patrick Kane in his country's all-time scoring chart. In addition, his 30 assists represent another all-time record, one ahead of Kane's mark.

Such a shame we never got Olympic hockey while we had 1/4 of both Team USA and Sweden on the Flames.

Canada up 1-0 after scoring early in the third period. Canada can clinch first in their division if they get the game into OT, win or lose.
