What a great question. I think it depends how your brain is wired. For me, both Olympic gold medals were amazing and that also includes Sochi. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything including the Cup. It's also being patriotic and kicking ass when the time comes.

I also think if you've ever lived abroad, it makes you more patriotic and understand how great of a country Canada is. A city vs a country winning doesn't compare

Speaking as someone who has lived abroad for several years, you 're wrong.

Would you trade the Olympics medals for Flames win in 04 and Oilers win in 06?

Hmmm....

Would the entire No Good thread still exist? Quite the paradox.

As much as I hate the Oilers, at the end of the day I really don't care about that team. I'd let them win 5 cups in a row if it meant we could win 1.

I've lived abroad and still do. A Stanley Cup 10 times out of 10.

Canada winning at hockey is not that big of a deal in my book. They dominate the sport, so them winning gold is expected in every single tournament they enter. When the wins are expected, they aren't as special. Stanley Cup glory is forever.

Besides, as if you cared about men's Olympic hockey before 1998, nor will you in 2018 when NHLers are not welcome.

Surprising that since you lived abroad you didn't learn that hockey doesn't actually mean much to alot of people outside of Canada.

The 2010 Olympics were very special for my wife and I. Because of that, Olympic gold by a landslide.

So in 2018 when NHLers may or may not be welcome and the Flames are in the SCF, you would want the gold medal more than a Cup "by a landslide"? Yeesh.

The Stanley Cup is the only thing that matters. The Olympics are nice. I watched a total of 1 Men's ice hockey game in 2014. I haven't missed a Flames playoff game since 1996.

Did you miss the part where I explained it was a choice for personal reasons?

Please remember when the Flames were in the final that year in 04 it was Canadas team.

That has never happened since . A rag tag beat up no talent team that wasn't supposed to make the playoffs that was all heart .

I've never been so invested in any thing in my life at that point .

I'll take my 2004 Stanley Cup every time cuz it was in.

I don't do it.

The 2004 run was special, losing hurt, but the magic that was the entire run was amazing. The natural rebirth of the city cheering for the flames at the same time the city is entering its great economic boom was a special moment in time for the city and the team. I'm not sure my memories of 04 change if we won a cup.

When I think of 04 I don't remember not winning in the memories of that spring. Its only when you talk about hockey that you remember the losing. So for me winning the cup that year wouldn't have changed the experience.

However with the 2010 Olympics I think losing the last game would have been devastating and changed how the Olympics were remembered. Being in Vancouver, drinking on the street, nationalism rarely seen in Canada I think would have really been soured if Canada didn't finish what it had started.

So while my memories and experience in 04 don't change with a win my memories and experience would change and perhaps even Canada hosting future Olympics would change with a loss in 2010.
