this was an important post thanks- someone had attempted to hide them behind a shopping cart, but I persevered and found them

Saw someone mention Snake Lake in a post above- another great new brewery that hit the ground running with some solid beers.

With regards to Heady, the brewer says it is too get more of the aroma in your face. Also, it was the first of the unfiltered, hazy IPAs, and they didn't think people would like the looks of it. I guess they were wrong there! They do sell IPA glasses in their tap room, so I guess they aren't too stringent about that recommendation.

So dumb. I hate it. If I'm drinking heady i'm pouring it in a glass.

Was just down at the brewery and they have lots of Tokyo Drift. Didn't see any gold top cans though

Oak and Vine on 16th Ave had a bunch of Tokyo Drift in cans yesterday.

Wildrose sale to Sleeman was just approved by the shareholders.

Wildrose has been average for years now so I am not really surprised.

Sad news. Wildrose was responsible for starting my transition to a craft beer snob.
Seems to be a trend with early entries to the craft beer market. They played it safe and get complacent while newer, more exciting and creative, brewers slowly take their market share. In the end the choice is to die a slow death or sell out. The fact the press release mentions Velvet Fog and Wraspberry, their exact same most popular beers from 15 years ago, really says it all.

Crap. This means that the Peligroso Coconut Chili Porter isn't going to be back.

I don't know if the Sleeman's purchase will change anything. Sleeman's has owned Unibroue for years and they've been very hands off with them.
Still plenty of local brewers I prefer to Wild Rose, though.

Annex did 40 oz bottles of malt liquor for their 2nd anniversary - Deuce. 7%, surprisingly easy drinking. Kinda fun to see something so off the wall.
Grabbed last minute tix to Beerfest last weekend, tried to sample as many out of town Alberta breweries as I could. Two highlights were Grain Bin and Dog Island. Snake Lake also impressed.

My favorite was Dandy and thier black IPA. I've never seen a dark IPA before and it was super tasty

Dandy does some good brews. Their tropical dark sour is really great and I'm not a sour fan. The collab with Fernie brewing "Back to Dungaree High" Double IPA with KVIEK yeast was really good too.

I was too young to drink when that purchase happened in the 90s but I have friends in Quebec that kinda disagree. They say it wasn't too bad at first but when Sleeman themselves were sold then it all got worse

Unibroue is liquid gold so either it was transcendent before or Sleeman will make Wild Rose better too.

Dandy is my absolute favourite Calgary brewery. Tasty beers, the brewery itself is a nice comfy place and the food is great, too.

The Establishment (though I haven't made it to Dandy yet admittedly - on my list) takes top honours for me thus far.
I see my fav Fat Sherpa Porter is not currently on the menu, but you cannot go wrong with anything these master brewers put together.
(admittedly also a sucker for their style and design - from their cool logo, to their taproom, to their vinyl records playing, etc.)
