I kind of relate the Edmonton Oilers bashing posts post, and all of the other Oilers bashing posts as an attack on downs syndrome people cheering on a bad team for so long.
They have no clue that their team is doing good, when they are.
That's what its like here.
Its tough at times to live here.

Jesus effin Christ. I'm in the basement of the Unicorn and they turned off the Flames game on all TVs to put on the Oilers game.
What is happening.

So far, they've beat CGY, CGY, VAN, CAR, WPG. These 5 wins are against teams that didn't make the playoffs last year. They get credit for wins against STL & WSH, but those are only 2 wins and they came at home and even the Flames have beaten top-tier this season and last.
They've only played 3 road games so far, haven't left Western Canada nor played any back-to-backs.
Sounds like they're banking points in the easy part of the schedule. They're gonna need it. Let's see after November when they play 10 of 15 on the road.

They're just filling their yearly quota of wins early, its just going to make the impending losing streaks all the more epic.

Evidence:
This Edmonton Oilers team won 7 out of 8 games and went on to place 29th in the league at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Plenty of games left for them lose.

I think they'll still be above .500 at the end of November thanks to the cushion they have built up. But I think it'll be only be by 1 or 2 games by then.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them make a Montreal-like nose dive either.
I think as soon as Talbot starts to look human again - likely in the midst of all their road games next month - is when the team will get exposed. The real test to know if this iteration of the team is for real for playoff contention will be how they respond to their first stretch of adversity. I think that's why a lot of non-Oiler hockey people remain skeptical still. Because all those past Oilers teams no matter how promising they might look in October, would unravel in that November-December stretch when the games would step up a notch.

This was in the caption for the McDavid breakaway goal on sportsnet...
GOTTA SEE IT: MCDAVID SCORES ON BREAKAWAY THROUGH SHEER FORCE

Watch as Connor McDavid turns on the jets and scores on a breakaway after charging toward Ryan Miller like a rhino.

With Talbot's strong performance and Edmonton getting out chanced and outshot in games, I see the same thing happening as last year once Talbot cools down.

Talbot was a good acquisition at a relatively low cost. And on a decent contract. For all the mistakes made up there, he looks solid.

All their success right now hinges on McDavid (look at their scoring compared to the Flames as it's McDavid, his lineman then a drop off while the Flames have even scoring up and down) and Talbot playing lights out. If McDavid gets injured for a long period or Talbot struggles they are in a world of trouble. I have to admit McDavid right now is as impressive a young player as I have seen in a long time. More impressive than even Crosby because of his ability to turn any rush into a breakaway.

I don't know which I should feel more of, annoyance that the Oilers won the McDavid lottery when they shouldn't have and didn't deserve to, or just relief that they didn't also win the Matthews lottery when they shouldn't have and didn't deserve to.
It's bad enough that those pieces of crap were gifted McDavid, but imagine if they had both those two.
Yikes.
Weren't they like one number off from winning that lottery too or something like that?

This start for the Oilers is great. Their ascent into hockey purgatory will be a welcomed change as there is a real chance they finish in that hated 9th-10th spot now... and out of true lottery contention. As has been mentioned, they are banking points on an easy schedule and it is not sustainable.
Here's hoping for 80-85 points for the Oilers this season. I would LOVE one goddamned draft lottery where I'm not worried that the Oilers are going to be undeservedly gifted a top prospect.
