You would think it was Petterson's team no?

Without knowing the locker room dynamics and true personalities of these players it's not easy to know what players should or shouldn't be captains.

Probably trying to stop Hughes from joining his brother.

Brothers! Assuming Luke stays on the roster this season.

It's his team on the ice. Off the ice, he's too quiet and cerebral. At the end of last season, it was the one thing Tocchet said Pettersson still had to work on if he truly wants to be thought of with the best of the best.

Hughes, on the other hand, was acting like a captain when Horvat was still here. He's the one that spoke up about how the team handled Pearson's injury. He's the one that spoke up about pride night and the issues with players (including Kuzmenko) refusing to wear the jersey or indicating they may not support gay and trans rights. He's also liked by his teammates which is important.

And then, on top of that, he's also good, likely on the same tier as Pettersson at a different position.

1. If the team shows no improvement, no one will blame him.
2. It wouldn't be a Gaudreau, it'd be a Tkachuk.

Just give it to Miller, what could go wrong?

Probably nothing amazing, though he's too temperamental to be a captain.

Tkachuk told the team he wasn't staying. Has Petey done that?

From what he told Friedman it seems like Pettersson wants to see how this season pans out, i.e. the on-ice results are his main criteria. Doesn't seem like he's a flight risk for a warmer climate/tax breaks etc.

At this point in his timeline, no, he hadn't.

Maybe not flat out saying he won't stay, but I am pretty sure he made it clear his potential departure lies solely on the success of the Canucks' 23/24 season.

He's making it quite clear, start winning or don't expect him to stay.

I see no issue with this. He wants to get paid, he wants a stanley cup.

If he doesn't think he's going to get both here, he will go somewhere else.

I hope he sees it here, but won't hate him if he sees it somewhere else when we don't show it to him.

Mikheyev has left training camp for personal reasons.

I thought Mikheyev was a good signing for the Cancuks but it sure hasn't worked out well for either side. Maybe the injury is still lingering. Who knows but he hasn't played for them so he is not really missed.

He played 46 games last year for them and scored 13 goals (a 23 goal / 50 point pace), which isn't bad. The injury isn't good if it continues to hamper him but "personal reasons" doesn't sound like it's related.

Didn't realize he had played in that many games. I would have been happy with him on the Flames for the cost. I like the player, hope everything works out for him.
