Wasn't there a year or so in the early 2000s where both 98.5 and 107 were basically hip hop stations? Probably circa 2003 since every fourth song they played In Da Club by 50 Cent...

Calgary went from having no hip-hop on the radio to too much hip-hop on the radio in 6 months back in 2002. Kiss 96.9FM went to hip hop that spring and then that fall Vibe 98.5 launched and played essentially the same play list. Kiss lost and rebranded to Jack FM. Even one full time Hip-hop station was too much for the Calgary market back then and Vibe rebranded and moved to a top 40 format and locked down the lucrative 15 - 35 year old female demographic.

I still listen to the radio, but I have to wonder how bad ratings are these days.

I remember taping the Top 6 at 6 on cassettes when I was a kid lol. I think I Will Always Love You from the Bodyguard was number one every night for like 2 months.

Waiting around to tape songs you liked from the radio was a labor of love.

I wondered if 96.9 might have been the other hip hop station - that makes sense...it looks like 107 changed to Peak at a similar time in 2002 so it must've gotten muddled in my mind to those other changes.

Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi must have been number one for at least that long, probably longer.

Heck, I remember when you would actually call in to AM106 to vote for who would be first

Q107 was decent enough. Basically the only station I'd listen to when I lived in Calgary, bummer

Some radio friends I have on facebook are musing at a Power 107 return

Calgary already has, what, six Top 40 (or variation thereof) radio stations...what's one more?

Fuel 90.3 is my long lost radio love. Great mix of rock and indie music that wasn't for weirdos.

Dear. Mr Jesus

Though I was old enough to stay up for the Top 10 at 10.

Sucks about 107.3...KIK to Power 107 to Q107. Always a less obnoxious choice for that kind of music than CJAY, at least back in the day.

1060 is my nostalgia station here. I was doing a lot of back and forth from Regina prior to moving here and I always looked forward to hitting Medicine Hat as you could pick it up clearly at Redcliff. It reminded me so much of my university radio days.

Are there any CBC Brave New Waves listeners? Brent Bambury did a great late night show.

Rona in Westhills is shutting down, huge sale on everything. Tons of stock as it just started people are leaving there with shopping cart full off everything. Up to 75% off most items 40-50% min.
I just picked up $200,00 in LED smart bulbs for $30.00

Most of the power tools picked clean, buts tons of other stuff. Thinking on going back for BBQ supplies.

How does eau Claire still exist? I was looking at movie showtimes and actually did a double take when I saw it listed as a theatre. But not just the theatre, the whole mall. That’s crazy valuable land. How is it still some giant dumpy mall? It’s mind blowing.

Is the Egyptian store still there? I feel like when your anchor tenant is a niche store that sells life sized $18000 sarcophagi, your mall is gonna fail. And yet here we are. Still going.

Harvard Properties owns the whole thing, maybe just maybe with the green line starting to get going they'll finally pull the trigger on their redevelopment plans.

It's not really a mall anymore. It's an odd mish-mash of weird stores but more than half of it is now professional offices, medical and even Canadian Blood Services.
But yeah waste of space.

I'm always tempted to think that Eau Claire has to be some sort of Tax Grift.

Nothing about that place makes financial sense. Like...how does that Egyptian store pay what must be outrageously premium rent?

We should start a Poll on here asking if anyone has ever made a purchase at that place?

I've probably been in there a dozen times in my life, granted, none recently because I havent been down there in eons, but I have never once bought anything.

Other than years ago at the movie theater I cant remember the last time I actually spent money at Eau Claire.
