By the time Draisaitl is negotiating, it'll be for more than Matthews'. My guess is he'll be looking for between$13 and $14M, long term

And McDavid will be at least $15 million.

There's no doubt he's an extremely skilled offensive forward but I really wonder what he is thought of around the league by GMs and scouts. He's very one dimensional, doesn't use his size, doesn't seem to elevate his teammate's play, doesn't come across as a good teammate and strikes me as a bit of an #######. Quite a bit of an #######. He's a perfect Oiler! I bet his value isn't as high as I sometimes think anywhere else but in Edmonton.

NMCs will come into play if it gets there in a Drai trade. And Oilers won't take heaps of draft picks.
Just like Hall got a terrible return from NJ, Oilers will have to take what market is giving.
Like it has been since the second Lowe asked Comrie to pay money back to the Oilers to be traded, no agent with a client that chases anything more then stability or money, would sign there as a FA. Same goes for waiving NMCs. The ones that thought things would be different and chose Edmonton and got sold by some snake oil (Pronger, Erik Cole, Perron) and realized they wanted out almost immediately l, were good enough to get a return traded away, other buried in minors (Souray).
I can see him being traded by the Oilers as a business decision if it guaranteed McDavid re siging, but then McDavid has no one (well, except his junior coach, junior linemate, and former agent as president of hockey ops, this year at least) so why would he sign off on Leon leaving for some magic beans, as no one of any appreciable talent, unless on their rookie deal, won't have a NMC and won't not wave it to go to Edmonton.

No title is better than the abomination that is this thread title. Should be preemptive E=NG XII to correct past mistakes.

Draisaitl will ask for 15 and someone will give it to him. My guess? Chicago to play with Bedard.
McDavid I’m unsure if he stays, but I bet Edmonton is desperate enough to give 17.5 x 8. Or whatever the cap figure is times 20% (max offering).

Lock ‘em both up longterm. You can always sign a Connor Brown to a bonus laden contract to round it out.

So, before tonight's game, the Oilers were five teams and 8 points out of the playoffs. After their huge win, the Oilers are five teams and 8 points out of the playoffs.

Normally you mop the floor with rags, and not the other way round. But in this case I'll allow an exception.

I know - just feel sadder than I should when any team is up on the Oilers at any point and lets it slip away.

Sounds like Campbell just ain't cutting it in the AHL. Oh well, what's another $3.8M in wasted cap space?
Quote:
Friedman: “One of the things I’m hearing out in Bakersfield, Jack Campbell might not be the starter there, if he hasn’t lost the job already. Olivier Rodrigue has got to play, so this plan that the Oilers had, that this would be a short trip down for Campbell, it’s going in the other direction. I think it becomes now, how comfortable are you with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard? And if not, where are you going?”

Ok, hear me out, I'm onboard with the thread title, but it needs a tweak.
The sweatpants reference as most know comes from the Steve Armitage meme. However I think an opportunity was missed here, that should satisfy the masses until E=NG XII.
It should be...."Whitemud! Sweatpants and tiers." I can totally see this as an outro to the broadcast after an Edmonton first round knock-out. If you read this in Steve Armitages voice and visualize him in a blue CBC blazer it really works, and ties the whole thing together....
"After a valiant fight in the musky bowels of Rogers place, the Edmonton Oilers once again go home empty handed. Instead of cup glory, all that's left in Edmonton! is Whitemud! sweatpants and tiers. Steve Armitage, CBC Sports."

McDavid made 15M in the first 2 years of his contract, He's down to 11 this year and 10 next year. I wonder if he's sour? This year he's paid, in actual dollars and not cap hit, less than 16 other guys including Timo Meir, Seth Jones, Ovie, Hamilton, and Roope Hintz.
He's going to ask for max cap hit at max actual salary.
