I finished it late last night as well.
Again...I'm a non-game player...but holy hell I loved this show. The hope combined with the just base-level cynicism and then the complete hopelessness.
There is something about Evil Global Corporation doing Evil Corporate things that grabs me, so that worked for me too.
The themes worked for me. Its definitely going to require a re-watch because I dont really think I genuinely got a few things, like caught why the Ghouls are a thing, etc.
But I mean...for something thats supposed to look like post-apocalyptic hell it looked it. That was fantastic. The sets and everything were amazing.
The mech suits were great. And the acting, I mean, like BigThief up there says, everyone was excellent.
I thought Ella Purnell as the main character? Man...she was given a tough role. To be smart but naive, tough but forgiving and a complete fish out of water with no understanding of her surroundings? I think she killed it.
That can't have been easy but I think she probably had some fun doing it and personally I think she nailed it.
I'm not going to go through the entire list, but there were so many little bit-part people that were just great. I'll single out Zach Cherry, killed every scene he was in.
If I had one complaint it would the almost criminal under-use of Matt Berry. But then again I want him in every scene and we're not going to get that.
Moises Arias was great. Again, he was given a hard role, its secondary, potentially even tertiary, its subtle but critical to the story and I think he plays it really well.
And Walton Goddamned Goggins.
I dont think I have to really say anything about him. That must have been fun for him because his character was all over the goddamned place. Really very fun and in typical Goggins fashion he Gogginsed it up and pretty much stole the show.
Honestly, I dont think there is any element of this show that I could genuinely point at and say: "There. That. That was the weakest link."
