I don't think he even gets 4 with term. He signed for 4 on a one year deal coming off a much more productive season.

I think in today's cap world there's no team that isn't slightly overpaying a 3/4 guy or playing a 5/6 guy as a 4. It's just not possible if you truly believe a player like Shattenkirk is a 2/3 guy

Can't think of player that would be better fit for taking a "shave" to stay in a place where all the planets align for work, home, and overall situation.

I've said it in here before but I think this is a huge factor. A new baby is tough. Twins are real tough. For his wife to have her parents around to help is going to be a factor. I think it's a slam dunk that Stone returns.

Yeah. He likes the city, knows the city, has close family in the city, and the flames are trending the right direction. Treliving has him right where he needs him.

Who he replaced doesn't matter, I'm judging him on his own merit. He was a top four guy last year with 35+ points, and he's been that, albeit briefly, in Calgary so far. After that it's all about how much you trust his poor play in Phoenix this year to recovering from the knee injury.

27 years old, 2nd pairing, capable of 30-40 points. How much are teams willing to pay that on the ufa market? You get him at 4.5 it's a steal.

Now if he's willing to take less, fantastic..but any talk less then four is wishful thinking IMO.

I really hope that this is the case. It would be such a steal for the Flames.

If he keeps it up, what's the likelihood that Stone gets taken by Vegas? I would imagine at this point he has worked his way into a top target

Well again, he's a pending UFA. They will have that allocated 48 hour window to negotiate with him (signing him would be in lieu of selecting a player from Calgary).

But if Stone would prefer to sign in Calgary for the many reasons that make sense, there is little to no risk. Unless Vegas knocks his socks off with a big deal.

Stone would need to want to sign there for Vegas to bother claiming him. I think it's a virtual lock that he signs with the Flames sometime after the expansion draft takes place, unless Vegas knocks his socks off as AC said.

After which, of course, the NHL accuses the Flames of tampering with the expansion draft by signing him after (even though it makes the most sense for every party involved) and the Flames are forced to forfeit their 2018 1st round pick. It later goes before a judge and the NHL loses their case.

FlamesNation has always come across as being run by a bunch of people who aren't Flames fans but pretend (poorly) to be because it's their job. I'd argue some of writers don't like the Flames. I've never enjoyed that place. I know there's similar sites by the same parent company for other teams, not sure what their fans feel about them.
