I like Stajan but how is he a third line centre on this, or any other, team? He plays fourth line minutes, with fourth line wingers.
Brouwer is not a fourth line winger, whether you like him or not.

I am glad Ferland is clicking. I know they have tried a number of times to play him with the first line with Hartley but it just didn't seem to click for him and the play would die on his stick. I think credit to the coaching staff getting him playing how he needs to play with Gaudreau and Monahan. I don't think Ferland knows just how good he can be with the tools he has. Gaining some confidence is going to do wonders for his game.

I understand the whole 'not exposing a recently signed UFA' argument except I agree that the expansion is an extraneous event which is why I don't think it's as big of a deal as some think. The only argument I could see making other potential UFAs a little leary is that there's no one on the roster who should clearly be protected over Brouwer. They should expose him nonetheless. He's not only not getting points, he also hasn't been much of a physical presence.

The only reason you expose Brouwer over Stajan is due to the three years left on contract over one. Brouwer has disappointed this year (though he's been better on the pp then stats suggest) but I think he has several years of good hockey left in him, even if he doesn't earn that high ufa contract.

Ferlund is going to be relied upon heavily against the kings and I hope he doesn't try doing too much and gets hurt.....you can bet Darryl will be sending his heavy players in his direction.
Ferlund keeping it simple and watching out for Johnny will be important as I think these last 3 games against the kings are going to be nasty.

Pretty sure it is Ferkland. I heard from a reliable NHL source.

It will be really interesting to see Ferland's performance on the top line over the final 19 games. Both Johnny and Mony are starting to get in a groove, and Ferland is still finding out where his ceiling can be.
His confidence is building right now, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It IS Ferkland.
But that's irrelevant.

Having someone on Johnnys wing who can snipe goals, create space, posses freakish hitting power, and can scrap with the best of them is honestly perfect. He has so many tools

Yup. If Ferly can put it all together, he is honestly the PERFECT fit for that line. Fingers crossed.

Not nearly as many players are taking runs at Gaudreau while Ferland is on the ice.
The slashes are not as blatant either.
Ferland offensively is always working hard and I think that will force Monahan to play every shift harder.
The chemistry between the 3 is paying off big time.
Many of us were hoping Ferland would get another shot with Johnny and Monahan for multiple reasons. Glad it is working out this time.

Seems like Ferland is taking steps to show that not only can he be a physical bruising presence but a skill player in this league. His wheels and perfect shot placement during breakaways is perfect for a team needing forward depth and scoring beyond the 3 M line.

He has the best release on the team. The kid has hands for sure, just needed to grow his game a bit. Had outstanding WHL stats, and he's going to have a nice NHL career.
