Wow, didn't realize Lava Dining was gone. That didn't last long.
The Jugo Juice in that building is gone too.

A pub in a community centre? That seems weird.

It overlooks the rink at West Hillhurst. A far nicer (and warmer) way to watch my kid's hockey.

Forgot to add it has a kids menu so well. Chicken fingers, Mac n cheese, Burgers. Multiple drafts on tap and apparently a good selection of whiskies.

Are you referring to St. John's? If so I have a friend that works for the company that is now doing the leasing (QuantumPlace Developments), there were a few issues with the city to sort out for bay sizes and such and hopefully they are close to a few tenants being ready to go.

For any of you on yelp - they are having a "passport to Kensington" week of events. I believe they start on Saturday. Lots of various events at businesses throughout Kensington.

I mean, that's good - but it doesn't seem like a place people would go unless they had kids playing hockey.

Hopefully they can use some money to fix up the worst rink in the city. Playing for Westwood thankfully my teams never had to play there past atom

Not all that surprised. Never saw anyone in there. We considered it once but the prices made us turn away pretty quick.

The story now is they finally have the money to replace the roof, will hopefully make it nicer inside. Hard to fault the association when their treasurer stole hundreds of thousands from them. I just hate the dressing rooms. I can tolerate the uncomfortable seats and frigid temp.
ETA for those who don't know the whole story, here's a Metro article on it:

Anyone know why we have no water in Kensington?
There are some water wagons set up on Memorial.

Might be an urban legend, but I've heard they were robbed by at least two other groups as well.
The last pub operator disappeared?

Do you mean Hillhurst or Sunnyside? As we all know that Kensington is not a community but a business revitalization zone.
East Sunnyside? No issues here all day.

That's ridiculous - that restaurant was great. Probably the best in the neighbourhood, other than Vero. And their burger was the best in the city.
Hope they re-open somewhere else. It was a pretty bad location.

The "salsa" aspect was a painted-on theme anyway. It was a nuisance for all the businesses to make gallons of salsa. People would come for a festival without salsa.
