I watched Unfrosted last night on Netflix (the Seinfeld movie about Pop Tarts). It had some stupid moments but, honestly i laughed more than i thought i would
I get what they were trying to go for, but Spaceman was a bit of a slog. It's the only movie with a gigantic spider that I watched all the way through...so there's that.
Tom Cruises War if the Worlds? That was soooooooo bad?!?!
I love all of the War of the Worlds iterations. The Spielberg one bothered me a lot, because of Speilberg. He has this thing that he does called the 'special family unit', and it gives characters invincible plot armour.
The first part of that movie is incredible. Once it hits the part where the family starts breaking at the seams, it goes off the rails a bit. The ending could have saved it, but he dropped the ball in favour of his SFU.

Try Eight Legged Freaks as a palate cleanser.

Kingdom of the planet of the apes was 3/4 of a good movie. It had some potential and then fell flat on its face. We were laughing about how stupid and nonsensical the last third was. It’s too bad because they have most of a good movie and then they just completely ####ed it up with a few really really dumb ideas that make no sense at all.
Dumb and dumber is awesome, I feel like it's mostly due to not just casting another comedian in the other role but going with a really good dramatic actor. That balance plays off each other so well. That dynamic with Jeff Daniels seems to keep Carrey from being full Carrey the whole time

You're more generous than me.
The first 70 minutes had me searching for anything to keep me awake. It was so hard to get through, nothing was happening, and the dialogue felt like it was on 0.75x speed. What didn't help was I couldn't connect with the ape characters, whether I wasn't in the mood or a human element was needed to make that connection, I don't know.
It reminded me of walking around...endlessly...in the Horizon video games: neat at first, but the novelty quickly wore off.

Twisted Metal (Peacock) based on a video game series I've never played. Stars Anthon Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa from Brooklyn 99), as well as Thomas Haden Church and Neve Campbell. Funny, violent, gory, and fantastic chemistry between the leads.

When does it settle into a groove? The first few episodes were giving me that Deadpool/The Boys try hard vibe
Oops wrong thread not a movie. Anyway, the first couple of episodes for me were meh, but then Stephanie Beatriz, who is great at doing many different emotions, began to make use of that. Season finished really strong, and Episode 8 was a real highlight, with Jason Mantzoukas. If you watched Brooklyn 99, you'll immediately recognize Pimento.
It starts out like an average (?) exorcism movie, and then does it ever go balls-to-the-wall and over the top. Horror's not my genre, but I did rather enjoy this one....
Spoiler!
and I'm still chuckling at how they seem to be setting up some kind of unholy cinematic universe. Oookay, if Italian Russell Crowe's onboard, so am I.

I'm watching basically anything in the Fat Russell Crowe era.

I actually really liked it. I'm not a Horror guy either, so you need to give me a decent premise to hold on to.
I watched it a while back, but I just recall it being better than I expected and I fully expected Crowe to mail it in, but recall he was pretty decent.

OMG, yeah, it was so lame and boring. I mean, par for the course for Planet of the Apes movies, but a very dull watch.
Watched Brazil (Terry Gilliam's satiric riff on Orwell. Evidently he wanted to call it 1984 1/2) last night for the first time in years. Very odd, very good:
