There is a more reasonable take on what is happening in Edmonton.
I can't believe they will take a patient approach with their two top players contracts expiring in one and two years.
They will make another trade like the one they made late last year, acquiring $6 million (4 more years) Mattias Ekholm (age 32) for a first round pick, a recent first round pick, a fourth round pick, and one of their top four defensemen (Barrie).
This will sink their future even more and not make much of a difference on the present.

Some Oilers writers are still way out to lunch. A story on THN the other day suggested that the Oilers should trade Campbell for Merzlikins straight across if possible, but conceded that may need to add something else for Columbus to bite.
