How's this for a stat? Today (April 14th) is 16 years, 4 months to the day since Klein retired and Ed Stelmach became premier (December 14, 2006). Since then we've had Stelmach, Redford, Hancock, Prentice, Notley, Kenney and Smith as premiers. Seven premiers, 16-1/3 years. That means the last seven premiers we've had have lasted an average of a mere 28 months before being given the boot.
EDIT: (And I realize Hancock was only ever an interim premier, but still...)
Stelmach - 4 years, 9 months, 23 days (1758 days)
Redford - 2 years, 5 months, 16 days (898 days)
Hancock - 0 years, 5 months, 23 days (176 days)
Prentice - 0 years, 8 months, 9 days (251 days)
Notley - 3 years, 11 months, 6 days (1437 days)
Kenney - 3 years, 5 months, 11 days (1260 days)
Smith - 0 years, 6 months, 4 days (186 days) and counting
Avg = a little over 852 days

That would be better if you removed Notley, who served her entire term (47 months).
6 premiers in 12&1/3 years (148 months). 24.6 months. So basically half terms for all conservative premiers.
Smith now restricting questions from reporters to 1 question with no followup "because it's an election". And if you're arguing (as she is) that it's so that they can get to more people, she took only 6 questions.
One of the reporters should have asked precisely when she had called an election(she hasn't), and if they had a followup question how it can be an election period if it hasn't been called yet. Oh, and maybe why she hasn't called it. Imprecise much?
The whole one question and one follow up is stupid because most of the time the follow up is a completely separate, unrelated topic. They should have just said that reporters are limited to two questions.

The more I think about this whole limiting questions thing, it is not a DS idea, she loves talking and the sound of her voice. Her handlers have made this decision for her. The press needs to ask why she would go along with it, when the public needs to hear what she has to say...about everything, all the things, please DS tell us all the things you really want to say. No one should tell her what to do!
Let her speak, dont deprive us the chance to hear her thoughts on everything.
What could possibly go wrong?

Notley should have a presser and just take every question the press has. Make it last hours long.
100%. She should just say, “Similar to my opponent, I am also in the middle of an election, but unlike her, I will actually answer any and all questions everyone has. After all, we’re in the middle of an election. I’m available to Albertans anytime and have nothing to hide.”

Reducing industry safety standards for driver training will...... improve safety?
"School bus drivers are too safe and have too much training." said no parent, ever.
...and it's not like it's some specialized advanced training program they're cutting, it's the ENTRY LEVEL TRAINING PROGRAM TO DRIVE A ####ING BUS FULL OF CHILDREN. Damn rights a bus driver should have some entry level training, a school bus is definitely not a Honda Civic. JFC it's so stupid.

Well here’s the part that I don’t understand. She’s standing there behind a provincial lectern making a funding announcement or whatever…and trying say we’re in an election. Which is it? If it’s an election, you can’t make the funding announcements, and if it’s not an election you answer the questions as Premier. I hope the media calls her on that, because it’s ridiculous.

But Slava, as she said on her radio show today, the people behind her MIGHT HAVE FAINTED if she let the press ask more questions.
And my god they HAVE to stand there behind her and we sure can't afford to get them a chair otherwise we'll be spending like the nDP

I was thinking about this... wouldn't insurers want bus companies to properly train drivers?
Then it hit me... the bus companies would probably just make drivers sign waivers as a condition of employment...
Should just tell the rural folks buses will be driven by drag queens now..

I don’t listen to the propaganda hour, but seriously the media should be asking about this. You can’t have it both ways.

This question was posed to Smith on her radio show this morning. As expected she dodged the question
Quote:
Another listener in a text message asked Smith categorically if she still stands by her 2021 views on health.
“I don't believe a leopard changes its spots, so let me ask you directly: Do you now categorically reject what you wrote in that (policy) paper? Yes or no? Please do not provide a smoke and mirrors type of answer,” said the text message, read aloud by the host.
Smith did not answer yes or no but pointed instead to the health spending accounts.

It's funny because she promised to get rid of all the corruption in the UCP party when you ran for the Premier's position, and now we have a great example of that happening today. The backroom boys running the party and telling what she can or can't do.
