Just think, he isn't paid to write this stuff. This is his hobby. His actual job is to write brain-dead nonsense about Alberta politics.

Make plays… well thanks Paul… I had no idea.
This is something you tell peewee kids when they’re learning from their mistakes and developing… who did he last coach… ahhh.. makes sense.
The NHL is not a developmental league. They all know how to make reads. If they were better at them they wouldn’t be on the NHL recycling pile or trash heap for the Oilers to pick through.
He makes the intelligence of the game seem more like a mindset of committing to playing physical defensive hockey. It reminds me of the cliche
“Any idiot can knock down a barn, but it takes a skilled carpenter to build one.”
Paul is telling idiots to build barns.
This is the same playbook Gretzky used as a coach and why he couldn’t extract more out of bottom players. Wayne would talk about how he always viewed offside as a selfish play… maybe… but sometimes players just don’t have a clue. Lots of tools, just no toolbox.
Then the Grand Poobah of the Oiler Loyal Order Water Carry Buffaloes labels Paul’s insane take on executing hockey sense as psychology.
Keep up the good work David.

One's a contender with a good representation of youth on its roster.
One's in 27th place.

Obtaining future Oilers draft picks via trade can be seen as a humanitarian gesture, saving those kids from trauma.

Love this gem from the Hockey News proposing Raanta for Campbell.
Why would the Hurricanes want anything to do with Campbell? They say it'll only take a second or third pick to make it "even" lol.

Would the Hurricanes trade Raanta for Campbell? Stranger things have happened. The Hurricanes wouldn't need to waive Campbell, and if they wanted to they could allow Campbell to continue playing for the Bakersfield Condors.
To take on the extra salary the Oilers would probably need to add a draft pick to make the trade even for both sides. A third or second round pick might level the deal.

Do the HN writers not realize Raanta's contract expires at the end of the season while Campbell has three more years on his deal? I don't know if they make that deal if the Oilers include their next two 1st round picks because they aren't the type of organization to eat money.

They would wear an additional $11M by taking on Campbell's hit - sounds like about a 3rd to me!
Even just looking at this year - they have about $3M in space to work with... I know! Let's spend it all on a goalie we would leave in the AHL! For 3 more years! Maybe we can get a 3rd round pick for that? Cup bound!

Seriously whatever happened to the Hockey News? If Staples wrote this I would believe it.
