On this particular occasion, I found that f1.8 was too much, as the foreground started coming in really light after about 60-80 seconds.
I set it at f4, ISO 100 and put shutter on 'bulb'. I maybe could have upped the ISO a bit, but I wasn't too picky last night.
Obviously, having a tripod and my other lens would have made for a more appealing photo, but having the shutter cord was essential so I didn't knock the cam and have to sit and hold the button down.
I'd leave it until a flash of light came across the clouds or until ~2 mins. After which, I'd wipe the lens off and take another shot.
