I don't know, everyone wants to be a step up the ladder from where they are - Hicks was a closer for awhile in STL, he'd probably like a chance to earn a spot. He's been pitching well in general lately, and that 8th was excellent.
Plus, pitchers care about stats. If he finished out the game he'd get a save. Because of the runs scored in the 9th Pearson didn't, no save was awarded.
I think you get buy-in from the players if you help a guy out sometimes, especially when he's earned it.
Obviously a little thing, and not how Schneider manages at all.
