Perfect opportunity to sell high, if he continues with this level of play up to next trade deadline.

The thing with players like Kuzmenko are they are streaky. He has a lot of skill, but he isn't necessarily the right age for an extension. If he was 25 I would say sure, but he will be 30 soon. By the time we are competitive he will be around 35.

He will also actively be hurting our tank.

The coolest part is we still have at least half an nhl season before we make any decisions about kuz.

Hes fitting in great though and love the attitude and energy he brings. Hard not to want that around in any circumstances.

In tight to the goal he does have a lot of the same skills Matthew Tkachuck does. He's not feisty or big enough to be in that area regularly at even strength. But with added time and space on the PP he can do a lot of the same things there with good hands in tight and his vision and hockey smarts. He's a guy who likely would have worked with Lindholm since he can make those passes from the goal line to the slot that Tkachuck and Gaudreau could.

Hopefully he's healthy and can keep scoring next year. If he's playing so well that you hesitate to move him, I'm happy to have that problem.

I love Kuzmenko's attitude, energy, and skill. This is what the Flames needed and it'll be great to have him here long term for the rebuild/retool for the young prospects incoming.

Some fancy stats Following Kuzy’s 3-point night:

Powerplay:

GF/60: 16.14
xGF/60: 11.11
SF/60: 64.18

All best on the team.

Even strength:

2.11 GF/60
2.32 xGF/60
2.61 GA/60
2.68 xGA/60
25.14 SF/60
28.43 SA/60

I don’t know how many more teams are going to pay us to take a 40 goal scorer off their hands in the next three years.

This guy is developing quite a love hate reaction among the fans. We signed up for a cap dump and we might end up with an all time fan favorite signed to a long term deal. He has single-handedly generated enough offense with high skill and creativity to win a few games lately, which is NOT what we want to do.

If he's clicking with the team I'm happy. If the team is truly as bad as some of the fans say they are they will lose anyway.

If he gets traded next season it'll probably be for the same reason the UFAs were traded this season. Not because Conroy is trying to deliberately be bad for multiple seasons.

I think trading Kuzmenko makes the most sense at a macro level but I certainly wouldn't object to a short-term extension if the offers are there. Banking on a guy to continue shooting 25% is not a strategy, though.

That's what the Canucks said when they gave up on him and traded him away. After that, he went right back to shooting 25%.

Daniel Wagner pointed out that Kuzmenko's high shooting percentage is partly the product of his deliberately not taking low-percentage shots. About half his goals in Vancouver came from tips and tap-ins: ‘If he doesn’t see a high chance of scoring, Kuzmenko simply doesn’t take the shot, much to the consternation of his coaches.’

If he started taking lower-percentage shots in addition to the shots he already makes, his shooting percentage would go down, but his total goal production could actually increase.

The Flames can't afford to just give him away for a 2nd round pick as unlike Vancouver we don't need to dump cap, even if it's just for fan excitement he brings the type of skill this team needs the most, I was reminded of the last skilled player we gave away, he now coaches the PP.

Asset management is everything. From this perspective, he is best off being traded. I think the Flames' best chance to truly contend will be when Huberdeau's contract ends - that's in a long time. So draft picks are key.

But giving him a 3 year extension would be fine.

Depends how well they draft and develop in the meantime. The extra 1st-round picks they already have will be a big help.

Dallas didn't have to wait until Benn's contract ended. They made the Stanley Cup finals in a year when Benn made $9.5 million to score 39 points.
