The NHL has made this mess. There are times I wonder if the refs are just inept, then I wonder if the league has instructed them to miss calls on specific players.

I don't even understand why the league doesn't call slashing, I can't see how the game would be worse if they forced players to knock it off, most slashes seem to happen independent of the play.

Is there another angle of the slash i'm missing? That seems like any normal 2 minute slash to me otherwise. Poor result, but doesn't seem anything out of the ordinary.

When the captain of the injured player says nothing to see here, the fan outrage needs to settle down a bit. I think this would get even less attention if it wasn't Crosby, it isn't a case of him being let off because of who he is.

This, unfortunately, is one of the areas where fighting can't help. Because the only thing Crosby is going to do is turtle and have his cheap play rewarded with either a two minute or seven minute power play.

It was an unnecessary slash (most are) but a pretty routine one. I assume those calling for discipline will be calling for discipline on a half dozen players on their favorite team following the next game....

It was an ugly, ugly, ugly outcome and slashing at hands needs to go (in all league including beer league). They need to crack down on it but you don't crack down on it by saying "hey we're going to suspend a few guys today for something we've never worried about before with zero warning!".

Crosby has taken allot of crap over the years and refs have had the whistles put away. I get it.

Yeah, Melnyk is going to lose his mind as would any owner who should losing a top 4 player on his roster.

I'm still seething about Gaudreas treatment all of this year but Johnny needs to stop diving and whining as how has it helped him at all this year?
3 flames players who were smaller and skilled that started slashing and general dirty stuff after a while we're Joe Mullen, HakanLoob, JiriHudler....And 2 were lady byng winners candidates.

Hopefully we make the playoffs and things change for some players but who knows anymore.

I dunno maybe yeah probably.. but you end up slicing a guys finger in two it deserves something more. That's the way the world and the NHL has worked for a long time now.
