Why wouldn't you play your backup vs a terrible team playing on their second half of a back to back and have your starter for an important divisional game?

I think there's been one game that I watched where I thought Elliott's play was a reason we lost.

While some go overboard in their concerns, Elliott is last in all qualified goalies in save percentage more than halfway through the season...and Chad Johnson is 8th. I think there's good reason to be disappointed Johnson isn't in net for the biggest game of the year to-date.

The difference is that one of these goalies has a .924SV% and one has an .889SV%.

I'm still having trouble coming to terms with the fact that this isn't the usual gimme game for the Flames, and that the Oilers are ahead of us in the standings. I guess the day was going to come eventually.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Wouldn't surprise me if Elliott petitioned for this start. And if the Flames channel that 1st period of their last home game against the Oilers, for an entire game, I'll be happy. If Grossmann finds his way onto the ice somehow, well, I'll be unhappy. Impressed at his trickery, but unhappy.

The difference is one goalie had the bulk of their starts early in the season, when the team was playing like junk, and one has had most of their starts in the latter half, when the team has been playing pretty well to great.
Chad has definitely had an impact on the team's improvement, I'm not taking that away. He's been impressive, especially lately with some big time saves. He has separated himself from Elliott. But that does not make Elliott bad.
We could have a much, much worse back up goalie.

Going to the game tonight. Found four tickets!
They are a one line team. We can do this.

This is similar to what I am thinking. It is a redemption game for him.

Even strength scoring really needs to improve. Powerplay has rescued this season

Elliott? Ouch. 7-0 oilers. McDavid with a hat trick.
Please be the reverse.

Does anyone know if the Flames made roster changes for tonight other than swapping goalies?

False. The Oilers are not a better team than the Flames.

I honestly thought that I would never see the day. I'm still shocked, and I am still willing to benignly accept that the Oilers current success has anything to do with their actual abilities as a hockey team.
Edmonton is no good.
