Yeah... Nowhere in my post does it say that. I didn't even say he shouldn't be blocking shots. I was just openly asking the question if this is the trade off we make for having so much reliance on a guy who does block so many shots.
Also, just so you're aware, defenders do a lot more than block shots. Blocking a shot does not automatically make someone an NHL calibre defender. In that same vein, not blocking shots doesn't mean someone is a bad defender either.
Once again, I'm not saying he shouldn't block shots. I was trying to spur a discussion on the inherent dangers in blocking a shot from a professional hockey player and whether the potential risk/reward is worth it. The Flames are top 5 in the league for shot blocking, but also have two of their top players wearing protective boots right now. I'm hesitant to come out and say explicitly that shot blocking is bad, but it would be an interesting discussion to have with some fellow Flames fans.
