As much as I like Hartley, he lost many positive points in my mind this season with his goaltending charade.

I wonder if they've worked with Monahan about adding some bite? He has the skill, the size, the brains ... he just needs a little more edge in his game. Imagine how different his space would be if he finished more checks.

Interesting reading all the talk this year about tanking and Matthews points and inverse standings, when just a year ago such things were shameful and embarrassing and a dark spot on the great and glorious act of being a hockey fan.

Funny how that works.

Treliving gets some of the blame for the goaltending as well. The biggest negative factor on this season was still the Brodie injury. Led to Hamilton having a rough start and contributed to the teams lack of confidence in the goalies

Because the Sabres were shameful about it. Oilers east but Edmonton fans never cheered for the away team at home

It seems like they have. He is playing with a bit more edge the last few years.

It's harder and harder to defend Hartley's decisions. Hiller is gone from this organization in a few weeks. Why not get the best possible look at Ortio before deciding his fate too?

Because what... we traded our impending UFA goalies? Calgary would've too if anyone wanted them.

How about Treliving? Just as guilty in my opinion.

Hey Orts, you had an AHL all-star season followed by an NHL callup where you were absolute lights out against top notch opponents while the team was in the middle of a pressure packed playoff drive? And our goalie situation just happens to be working out so that you have a fair chance of taking the next step as a 1A/1B goalie or even as outright starter? Your progression is right on track? Well here's a third goalie to muddy the waters and mess with your head! Sink or swim!

Totally fair. The guy sucks. We ought to move on.

Hiller sucks and is a giant head case. Send him home for the rest if the year.

I find it shameful and embarrassing that some others are hoping for losses. It drives me nuts to see "Matthews points" posts. It is shameful.

Let me know when Flames fans start cheering for the away team at a home game like Sabres fans have done on multiple occasions.

I'm probably one of the most welcoming posters here. But if you're going to start poking the bear here when the fans have been through an awful season, gtfo

The Flames actually had plans of challenging for a playoff spot at the opening of the season. Once it became clear they were not going to accomplish that they did the smart thing and sold off assets at the deadline. Hiller isn't starting today because Hartley wants to lose this game or because it's an organizational mandate.

OutOfTheCube, how has Eichel done this year? Seems to have put up the points quite well, but how has he progressed? As expected? Better? Worse?

I'm also interested to see where you think the Sabres could improve going forward.

there is also a difference in trying to make the playoffs, pushing hard and ultimately falling short. then the last 1/4 of the season, changing it up to play young kids and if you tank....oh well. that's dealing with reality and your situation.

vs. Day 1: sending out an AHL roster and coaching towards failure, aiming at a high draft pick.

BIG DIFFERENCE.
