The purpose of a union is for people to get cheap tickets to watch millionaires play the game of hockey?

Sorry man I'm just not that extreme in any direction. Had to look up what it was.

But man it's funny these days that not agreeing with someone means you have to be cast at the most extreme point on the other side.

I don't think that's something to be taken lightly and I don't think you can just say that the NHL is a business in the same way that a pharmacy is a business it's a very different thing
I don't know about that, I think if you compare it to Ford truck guy vs Chevy, vs Dodge, it's pretty similar to pro sports. Pro sports are just very good at marketing and never refer to themselves the way a company that is selling you a material product normally would.
I'm not a die hard fan so maybe I can't relate but if you look at why you cheer for a team it's basically location, all the "these are great guys" is bs and part of the marketing.

Problem is, a lot of pushback against unions is for public sector ones and beleive me, the people running those unions get almost no benefit. They ceretainly aren't in it to get rich.

Not a union at all, so not relevant to the discussion. Even fan unions aren't unions unless you loosely define the word and even then you would have to cede power to some sort of fan union to have it mean anything. And then what? You get factions trying to control your fan union. Not everyone is a rebuild fan - most fans you talk to just want good players and wins. They don't look at long term effects or if they do, they still want both worlds.

Whatever.

So you want cheaper ticket prices? Well good luck with that.

What do you want? A voice in management? Why?

That tickled my memory a little about a youtube I saw for fan unions in europe for soccer, and how powerful they can be in shaping ownership behaviour. As a labour rights person, collective bargaining principles applied to fandom for the game we love seems to make a lot of sense.

Has this kind of approach been attempted here for the NHL? If not, man, I cant think of a better way to fight back against the predations of the greedy ownership who are bilking the Canadian consumer. Oiler fans are scum, but the 50 dollar nachos and drinks those wankers pay will be coming to the new Calgary arena too, no doubt.

And yes before anyone says it, one way to do so is to not spend money on the league or your team. But I don't think that's a good answer. I love my Jets and I know the people here love the Flames, and giving up on something like that because the current ownership are malignant sh*t sticks isn't how I want to approach the problem.

An example of something that I'd like to see emulated is https://www.fanseurope.org

I can't for the life of me comprehend what a fan union could accomplish.

There are like 18000 seats in an arena.

There are 1.2 million people in Calgary.

How do you plan to lower prices?

The market will drive behaviour. Prices go up because people are willing to pay them.

If you really don’t like it don’t pay for it. Or don’t buy things at the concession. Buy cheap seats or don’t go unless you get free tickets.

Ultimately not sure how your team is going to be competitive if there’s a fan union neutering them. Unless all of the teams change you’re just going to hurt your team.

I don’t think you’re allowed to not agree or god forbid question the approved narrative anymore. Think that changed about 4 or 5 years ago.

I’m just checking my being a canadian handbook.

1) do you think fans have a meaningful line of communication with the team and I don't mean in regards to lines and who is on the team and trades etc
2) do you think ownership has set pricing for tickets and merchandise that is reasonable for the average Calgarian
3) do you think for the average Calgary family the NHL is a good value?
1 - Define Meaningful

2 - No, but such is their choice. If fans want prices to drop then stop purchasing

3 - Depends on your definition of "good value"
