We don't have a 25 year old offensive 2nd line center.

I do wonder if there were any discussions about Kadri going back to Colorado though...

I rather they would have taken a run at mittelstadt.

He's the exact type of player we need.

Really good deal for both teams. COL with a major upgrade at #2C. BUF has guys like Benson and Savoie knocking at the door, and Mittlestadt was going to get paid. The LHD thing is awkward, but Samuelsson has played mostly RD on a pair with Dahlin. Maybe they shift Byram to RD on a pair with Powers.

Interesting that both Byram and Drysdale have been traded early in their NHL careers. Both were highly touted after how dominant they looked at that world juniors together. In both cases, the teams were trading for other young centres (although Mittelstadt is already 25 but fits the age range and role for Colorado).

True but I think Byram can eventually become a top pairing dman and PP1 QB.

Mittelstadt likely tops out as a 2C.

Buffalo has more young forward prospects knocking at the door and needed to get stronger on the backend. Mitts has been really solid the last year and a half for us but it's a numbers game at this point, his production can be replaced by a younger / cheaper forward that they won't have to give big money to for a while.

I really dont understand this from a Sabres perspective but they had to make some changes regardless, and Byram is a nice piece.

Young D men worry me. Ekblad, Eric Johnson, everyone but Peterangelo that one draft. I think D men grow into skill, if by this time they dont show it, they may top out as a Hanifin.

He had 10 goals in 42 games (24pts) last year while being stuck behind Makar and Toews the entire time, outside of 20 or so games where Makar was hurt.

Even during that time Toews was the one getting consistent PP1 looks.

The concussion's are a worry but he has all the talent to become a premier dman.

Mittlestadt took longer than many to find his way but looks to have found it finally last year and has continued that up this year. I'm a bit biased as I've always like Mittlestadt, but I think he's a bit underrated because many might not know he doesn't suck anymore.

Trading Bryam for the Avs has nothing to do with him not being a potentail high end dman. He is just stuck in no man lands in Colorado.

He's 6th in ice for dman in Colorado on the PK.

He gets minimal ice on the PP stuck behind Toews and Makar.

Injuries are a concern, but Colorado is showing they are planning a team that wins not just looks good on paper. Mittlestadt is a huge upgrade in a position of need and his production is mainly off the PP. Colorado can score, Bryam could excel elsewhere but is stuck behind an all time great and a 2nd dman who is very underrated. Walker is a PK dman, does not need PP time to play his role. Colorado is way better than they were yesterday

Byram = Mittelstadt, therefore

Byram - Mittelstadt = 0, meaning

Colorado - Buffalo = Calgary

Simple math says Calgary gets both players for nothing!

I don't understand how Colorado can keep Mittelstadt, they have 11 skaters and 1 goalie signed for next year and already have 69 M committed. 15 M to sign 7 skaters and a goalie just to carry a minimum roster seems like a problem, might have to dump a large contract. (that doesn't include Landeskog if he comes back)

I'm guessing they'll worry about that when and if Landeskog and/or Nichushkin come back. If those two are still out, that's an extra $13 million to work with.
