The Coyotes are a budget team, they can't take money in unless money goes out.

Tinordi makes $850k

He's making $575 in the AHL, the Coyotes are a budget team. Certainly it's not a massive number in the grand scheme of things, but if they can get that salary off the books, from the AHL, do it.

the ASG is a joke, yep. but I'm glad he's not going. was stupid how he was even eligible for an 'all star' game.

Hope the NHL learns from their oversight and this whole debacle going forward

It was obviously for the lulz... but it was definitely the fans doing it for the lulz. Non-fans wouldn't give enough of a crap about hockey, the all-star game, or John Scott to bother voting. There are easier ways to get lulz for folk who aren't fans.

Disagree. Once I caught momentum it attracted the attention on general trolls

It's the difference between Arizona losing $41 million or a much more palatable $40.425 million!

Seriously, if you care about hockey - enough that you know and care who goes to the All Star Game and are willing to take the time to prank it - this league despises you.
IMO they are fully in their right to correct a loophole that the twitter society decided to try to have fun with. I say good on them for finding a way to counter it. Your move folks. I guess we will see how passionate all these legitimate John Scott fans really are.

Technically you can round down due to materiality. That $75K is the most important because now the losses are only $40M!

Creative accounting for the win!

Yeah, that would sure show everyone.

That's the problem. This isn't like the Habs' fans voting a Hab for every starting position the year they hosted; or even two Blue Jackets going to the game last year in Columbus. The people who are paying to go to the game aren't the ones who voted for Scott.

I'm sure most hockey players are honoured to be selected but they don't want to play in the game. I'm sure Doan's feelings weren't hurt he wasn't selected. Dude gets a couple days off with his family.

how did the game become a joke, that's the main question the NHL needs to look back and address.

The NHL should add Ekman-Larsson now, then say that Burns has played forward before and will be treated as a forward. Done. Best player on Coyotes gets to go.

If the NHL and Coyotes really did/are trying to block him from going to the ASG, the union is going to get involved I would think. Imagine the union boycotts the entire ASG because John Scott was blacklisted? And then the NHL permanently cancels the ASG instead? Dare to dream....

I disagree with your take on this.

is it not possible for NHL fans to object to the state of the All Star Game and make up of the event?

The fans have been ignored and started a response that went viral. A player went along for the ride as he is entitled to do as an NHLer.

the NHL response is off side the rules it set up for its fans. There is a consequence. Rather than letting it go, they changed the rules and orchestrated a result behind closed doors, which many fans will find objectionable.

Let me put it this way - as a fan I'm more interested in seeing John Scott in the all star game today than I was yesterday because I think it's garbage that the NHL is pulling a stunt like this.

McKenzie's take:

Quote:
“John Scott will not be an All-Star. Either the National Hockey League will say because he is no longer in the Pacific Division – whether it’s in the NHL in the Atlantic Division or the real Atlantic Division, which is St. John’s… Either the NHL is going to say that he’s not eligible to be on the Pacific Division team as an All-Star captain, or John Scott – if it got to that, John Scott is going to go, ‘Uncle. I’m not going now.’

“I think he feels like there’s no question in his mind – and really, it strains the level of credulity to think otherwise – his inclusion in this trade, in my mind, was absolutely orchestrated to solve the All-Star issue for the league.”

The problem is that they closed the loophole after the result was decided.

If there is a set of rules that everyone is asked to play by, you don't get to retroactively change said rules if you don't like the result.

Had they done it before or during the vote, problem solved. But they chose not to. They earned this result. They should accept it and move on.

(Like I said though, I suspect John Scott gets a contract extension out of this if he goes away quietly)

Really, Jiri? You're going to rely on a no true Scotsman fallacy?

The campaign to get him in was driven largely from Puck Daddy and /r/hockey - both very hardcore hockey fan communities

It would be nice if all of his former team-mates refuse to take his place.
