That's not really what Friedman said though. He said Doughty playing is what likely means he won't. He also said he would be surprised if there was a couple games

Just saw the interview with our little "villain" explaining it. They asked about the hit on Doughty. He said "which one?" He said he hit Doughty twice on the same shift and he was trying to jump around him the second time.
I thought it was bad at first glance because Doughty sold it really well. Looked like concussion to me at first but of course he was back out almost immediately. I did not like the straight arm on Matt. In fact, I hated it.
This is getting blown way out of proportion. Matt was trying to do the "bump back hit" and swung his arm around recklessly and made contact. Should it have been a penalty? Absolutely, but that's basically it

You know what we should be having a conversation about? Sportsnet's reporting.
Their tag line "Tkachuk drops Doughty with blatant elbow to the face" is just click bait garbage as they try to stir !@#$ up. It's not the first time they've done this either. It's horrific, modern day reporting.
Want to see a blatant elbow?
That's what a blatant elbow looks like. Tkachuk was making a hockey play, and the back part of Tkachuk's arm hits Doughty.

I guess I’m in the minority but I liked the hit. Sets the tone that Calgary isn’t going to be messed with. Dirty or not (which is wasn’t even that dirty) I’ll still take it.
For how many seasons have the Flames been soft and pushed around by the Kings, Duck and Sharks? How many elbows, slashes and cheap shots has Gaudreau taken in his career?
Its nice that for a change that we have Chucky and Brouwer hacking, slashing and taking shots on other teams players for once.

A high elbow is a high elbow. You have to be a serious homer to try and defend that.
Having said that, all sorts of guys around the league have honed their skills in getting away with dirty plays that no one sees. Tkachuk is going to become one of those players, but right now he is too raw. He needs to learn how to get under opponents' skin without paying the price of a penalty/suspension.
You need to play with an edge, but with finesse; if that makes sense.
