Double digit double faults in a quick two set match. Looks like Shapo’s serve has picked up where it left off.

Katherine Sebov wins her opening round qualifying match 6-4 6-4 over Emiliana Arango. Nice win for Katherine who is trying to make a repeat appearance at the Aussie Open after qualifying a year ago.

Just FYI, I'm heading down south (not down under unfortunately) for about a week starting Wednesday so the tennis news/update posts will be pretty sporadic. Here's hoping we can get a few more Canadians into the Aussie Open main draw.

The good news is Rebecca Marino and Katherine Sebov advance to the final round of qualifying for the Aussie Open.
Also good is one is guaranteed a spot in the main draw because bad news is they play each other for that spot.

AO draw came out, we got FAA vs Thiem round 1, Raonic vs De Minaur round 1, Berettini vs Tsitsipas round 1, Murray vs Djokovic in round 3 potentially. Potential semi finals are Djokovic vs Dinner and Alcaraz vs Medvedev

You've got to feel for Milos drawing #10 DeMinuar in R1.....I guess the bright side being if he somehow upsets, he will have a pretty doable draw for a few rounds.
Fingers crossed that Diallo can get over the hump in the final round of Qualies today against Goffin.

Assuming he wins his first match. I saw his match this week and I'm not sure he can beat a qualifier as his serve was worse than ever. That said, best of five sets may give him a chance to get going.

Straight sets victory by Leylah, nice to see her playing well again!
Former AO finalist Cilic out in round 1.

Novak advances but it wasn't easy. 4hrs for a 4 set victory against the 18 year old kid

Nole with some massive praise for the kid. Says Dino reminded him of himself... No weakness. Nole urging the Aus open crowd and the TV cameras to focus on Dino after the match was a nice touch. 18 years old and putting the GOAT through the grinder at center court in the AUS open. Amazing really.

I was very impressed. On the surface you could be guilty of thinking Father Time is catching up with an extremely hard fought first round match but that would be a disservice to this kid. He went toe to toe at times beating Novak at his own game of patience. At the very least watch the extended highlights to see how tight this match was.

There were some glimpses of the old Shapo but he's really got to sort out that 2nd serve. It's not only the amount of double faults, it's the timing.
